Drug Trafficking in the United States - Research Proposal Example

Research Proposal Today, a majority of the countries are experiencing an economic crisis, which is putting adverse effects on the living conditions of the people belonging to those nations. The economic downturn is influencing people to migrate to well-developed countries. Some of those people do not possess the required documents and use illegal ways to migrate into other countries. Such people do not find good jobs even in financially stable countries and get involved in illegal activities, such as drug trafficking, to earn money.

Drug trafficking is one of the critical issues being faced by many countries today. Illegal immigration has proved to be the main cause of this issue.The United States of America has been facing the issue of drug trafficking for many years. In the United States, drug dealers make use of illegal immigrants for the manufacturing and exchange of drugs. The drug dealers are aware of the insecurity and fear which illegal immigrants have in their minds, and they use that fear for making immigrants work for them.

The network of the drug trafficking industry has expanded, not only to the United States, but also to other parts of the world. People involved in the illegal drugs business send their representatives to other countries in order to expand their illegal activities there. However, no country voluntarily permits such individuals to migrate into their territory and continue their illegal activities. Therefore, such people use illegal methods to cross the boarders of other countries. The government of the United States needs to take effective measures to stop illegal immigration because it is one of the major contributing factors to increased drug trafficking.

The purpose of this research is to reduce drug trafficking in the United States by finding ways to stop illegal immigrations. The hypothesis for the research is that limiting illegal immigrations from countries which are the homes of drug cartels can help the government restrict drug trafficking in the United States.Personal interviews with drug dealers, smugglers, drug users and victims will be conducted for the collection of data. Visits to drug users and drug dealers will also be made to gather information about the sources through which they get their narcotics.

Some of the likely sources for current information on this research topic will be books, scholarly journals, and internet articles. I will collect data and statistics and organize them into charts and tables. The time required for the completion of this research is estimated approximately at two months.The preliminary results of the research indicate that the US-Mexico border is the main entry point for the drug dealers. Some of the main routes include Mexican land routes and the Caribbean Sea routes.

Many illegal immigrants come to the United States through these routes with the objective to smuggle drugs to the local drug dealers. More studies will be examined to know the origin of the drug dealers, who are actively involved in drug trafficking.Research on this subject is important as drug trafficking is putting adverse effects on the lives of the local citizens. Drug trafficking is leading to many other critical issues, such as violence and HIV/AIDS. Therefore, I have selected this topic to study the efficacy of limiting illegal immigrations from the countries that are the homes of drug cartels.
