Extract of sample "Analysis of The Pit and the Pendulum Novel by Edgar Allan Poe"

The Pit and the Pendulum What did you most enjoy about the story? One enjoyed the climax of the story mostly because it finally freed the narrator from the torture he was being cruelly subjected to. When the author eventually described that there was a loud blast of trumpets and an outstretched arm suddenly reached out to grab the narrator’s arm to prevent him from falling into the pit, it was a scene of success, of freedom, of good triumphant over evil. One could imagine the sense of relief and elation that the narrator felt after an almost near-death experience.

What did you least enjoy about the story? One last enjoyed the parts where the narrator had to be subjected to torture by means unimaginable. Edgar Allan Poe was extremely effective in soliciting empathy from the readers by vividly using the elements of imagery where the narrator strained to describe his surroundings despite being enveloped in complete darkness. One would likewise dread being in the same situation as that subjected to the narrator of the story.
