Should IVF Babies Be Legally Conceived for Scientific Purposes? Back in the 20th century, married couples that had a problem conceiving children hadno other recourse except the adoption of children that were not related to them by blood. That is why movies such as Tomorrows Child that dealt with the then hypothetical scenario of an IVF or test tube baby made for controversial movies. The movie, presented the process by which a scientific designer baby was to be conceived and born and what the consequences of such procedures were.

In the 21st century, the scientific community has almost completely eradicated the problems posed by the infertility problems in couples by perfecting the IVF designer baby conception process. The only problem, is that the procedure which has become the latest fad among couples, is more often than not used by modern couples to help resolve the medical problems of their previously existing child. The IVF baby in effect becomes a “designer” baby as its DNA is scientifically manipulated during conception to become the carbon copy of the child who requires an exact DNA replica in order to help cure or retard his or her medical condition.

Although we have laws outlawing cloning of the human DNA for reproductive means, there have been 2 major cases in Australia and the United Kingdom that have gotten around that law. These couples have been allowed to legally produce an IVF designer baby solely for medical purposes of their first child. Thesis. It is interesting to note that although human cloning has been banned, the scientific community has managed to get around that ban by creating IVF babies for medical purposes thus getting around the scientific question of DNA manipulation in the case of IVF babies.

Structure for the Introduction Paragraph: Purpose: The scientific community has used the advent of IVF to create designer babies for medical purposes thus getting around the scientific ban on DNA manipulation for human cloning.Possible Elementsi. Tomorrows child has arrived. Sex is no longer necessary in order to create the perfect healthy child. Whats more, your perfectly healthy child can help save the life of your medically challenged child as well. ii. My study shall look into the process of IVF fertilization and the various processes that are undertaken in order to ensure that the child born will be the perfect DNA match for his sick sibling. iii. The scientific argues that there is nothing wrong with creating IVF designer babies for medical purposes and the courts of Australia and the United Kingdom support that fact.

I shall prove that there are valid reasons as to the need to ban such types of births beginning with the fact that the human rights of that child is violated immediately upon birth and the quality of life for the IVF child is challenged because of the medical purpose of the birth. Required Elementsi. The laws of man have banned the creation of another life as a perfect DNA clone of another person because of the possible negative effects it can have on the “clone”. In this case, the IVF designer baby is not a physical replica of another person but rather an exact DNA match for a sick sibling.

In my understanding, such conceptions are therefore a scientific way of getting around the human cloning ban for scientific purposes. ii. Thesis statement: (1) Working Thesis template: The most important topic surrounding the problem of IVF designer baby conception is the way it is used mostly for medical and scientific purposes at the present time. 2) Conclusion Part 1: Sum Up Paragraph* The scientific community has used the advent of IVF to create designer babies for medical purposes thus getting around the scientific ban on DNA manipulation for human cloning.

* In conclusion, IVF Designer babies born for medical purposes of his or her siblings should not be allowed under our law in order to protect the human rights of these “special” children. * IVF designer babies are born these days out of the medical need of a sibling and thus gets around the ban on human cloning. Births of such kind use it as a loophole for further human cloning studies. 3) Conclusion Part 2:* Purpose: Human life was not created for medical science to exploit. Conception was meant to give life to one person alone and only that person has the right to his being.

Therefore, the creation of an IVF designer baby for medical purposes is a violation of that right because the child is not asked if he wants to be a biological donor for a sick sibling. It is merely expected of the innocent child who does not understand what is happening to his own body. An IVF designer baby should not be farmed for organ donations for the life extension purposes of his siblings because an IVF child is first and foremost a human being with a right to live a normal, happy life.
