This course has helped me learn a great deal about myself. This was important since I now know how I can improve on the way I work with others. Using the self-assessment tests, I have been able to understand a great deal about myself. This paper is a personal profile that discusses my personality and how I work with others. My scores on the assessment taken throughout the course will support the discussion. How I see myself I am Joshua Leung and I come from Hong Kong. Personality wise, I am a positive person who has a tendency to look for the good in everyone. In addition, I tend to look for the positive in each situation. This can be demonstrated by my persistent in studying irrespective of the fact that I am not very talented on academic matters. However, I still set goals and struggle to achieve them. This has enabled me to achieve quite a lot academically. Moreover, being a positive person helps me deal with difficult situations without giving up since I always hope that things will eventually work out for the best. I always avoid taking offense easily. This has helped me deal with people of different kinds. Sometimes, my friends and people I come across tend to criticize me for being too ambitious. However, I appreciate constructive criticism and make use of it to improve. I consider every situation to be a learning experience and ensure that I learn from it. Additionally, being positive enables me not to be easily irritated since I do not take everything personally. On the assessment score, I scored highest on being a friendly and open person. This is true is true since I manage to cope with people from varying background. This has enabled me live peacefully in United States. I cope well with people in US irrespective of the great differences in culture. Additionally, I take responsibility and accept deal with problems that my action may create even when the situation is not comfortable. I consider myself an extrovert since I tend to be stimulated by events as well as other people. I tend to show my feelings and love working with people in groups. Additionally, I am inclined to using my senses to interpret the word by making use of my senses and prefer practical exercises. I realized I prefer dealing with practical situations involving problem solving as opposed to theoretical issues. On the personal assessment, I had a score of 135 on the type A person. Being a type A person means that I am aggressive and struggle to achieve more in limited time. This is true because I tend to be quite impatient and often find myself striving to achieve more things in a short period. Ever since I was young, I have always considered time to be an important factor that should be spent wisely. This can be demonstrated by the little time I spend on leisure activities. Although I spend considerable time with my friend, I always ensure that am participating in something constructive. Another thing about me is that I am very concerned about the political matters. This is because I understand that organizations are political systems. Since I hope to run my own company in the future, I believe this important. The self-assessment proved this since I scored 91 on how good I am in playing politics. Additionally, I tend to monitor myself and love possessing power. Although I consider and show concern on how other people view me, I have a strong positive self-concept. This makes me confident. However, being self-confident does not mean I consider myself better than I consider others. I have a good opinion about myself but I still have great regard for other people’s opinions. How Other People see me After discussing with my friends on what they think of me, most of them though I am creative. When faced by hard situations, my brother always asks for my help since he believes that I am good at coming up with solutions. Some described me as smart. However, they also agreed that I am smart but not on academic matters. My roommate once said, “You can make a great manager if not a political leader.” This was because I helped resolve a conflict between two of my classmates who kept disagreeing on almost everything. I made them realize that their different view did not always mean that they were wrong. From then, they learnt to respect each other’s opinion. They claimed that I could easily deal with life situations. This is somehow true. I have never been a good performer in academic but I always manage to resolve issues that require me to be practical. People view me as the kind of a person who enjoys being with others and like helping those around me. This is true because I find myself helping others whenever they are in difficult situations, which I can handle. One of my friends, Alex once said “I do not know what my life would be like if I did not have a friend like you.” This was because he often relies on me when he has a hard situation to deal with. After performing the self-assessment, my ethical standard rates are close to the norms provided. There were minor discrepancies, which suggested that others might hold different ethical values than my own. How I work with others I love taking part in teamwork. While working in a team, I prefer taking the role of the team reader. My strength as a team reader is that I tend to be time oriented. This enables me to ensure that the group finishes the tasks in good time. One of my strength arises from my conflict handling technique. I tend to work towards ensuring that the other party is satisfied with the outcome. However, I tend to withdraw from conflict at times. A good example was when arguing with someone and I realize that I am on the wrong. Other than keeping on arguing while I know I am on the wrong, I prefer withdrawing to suppress the conflict. Other occasions when I opt to withdraw are when I realize that the other party is unwilling to accept his or her mistake. Other than wasting time trying to convince them, I opt to withdraw. However, I have a weakness while working in team. This is because my communication skills are not very good. Sometimes, I get irritated while some of the team members fail to cooperate. This happened once when I was holding a discussion with some of my friends who were quite uncooperative and I had to walk out of the discussion. Additionally, I hate negative criticism. Another weakness that affects my capability of dealing with others is that I am considerably poor in English, which affect communication. This is because English is my second language and I am still learning it. My Goals in Life My future goals are to be become a real estate agent in China and own my own company. This is in line with my assessment score since I scored 81 on the probability of being an entrepreneur. This means that I am capable of identifying differences among people. Additionally, I can easily identify opportunities and act on them. This is true because I have attended several conference that deal with real estate. This was in an attempt to learn more about real estate. Attending these conferences increased my passions in real estate business. My goal of owning a real estate agency is practical since I prefer reward type of power. This was as per my score on the assessment. This showed that I prefer managerial positions. However, I also prefer occupying a position with formal authority. To be successful in real estate business, I believe that one requires being people oriented and good in team management. Ever since I was in high school, I love participating in group discussions and would often act as the group leader. The assessment depicted that I have good leadership qualities and that I am good in team development. On the test regarding how good I am at building and leading teams, I managed a score of 84. This demonstrated that I am good in teamwork. Additionally, I tend to trust other people. However, the assessment score showed that people take time to trust me. Areas for Improvement I realized that people take time to trust me. I thus need to improve on how I relate with others. This is because I tend to avoid making promises especially when I am not sure if I can keep them. I thus tend to avoid committing myself when I am not sure of my capability, which makes some of my friends to think that I am indecisive. Another area that I need to improve on is on how I relate with other people. The assessment score sowed that I have poor capability on communication. On the communication style, I realized that I am less attentive and tend not to relax while communicating. This could be attributed to my nature of being too time oriented such that I view lengthy conversations as time wasting. To develop appropriate communication skills, I need to be more patient.
