According to Chartres and Varma, there is a major problem of water, food and poverty in the rural area in the world. The authors describe the differences that exist between poverty levels in the urban and rural areas of the world. They further illustrate that the causative factors of poverty mat be considerably different in the two regions. The article says that poverty levels in the urban areas may be directly caused by high unemployment rates, while in the rural areas; poverty levels are majorly associated with lack of education and high illiteracy levels. The book also addresses the functions of the World Food Programs in alleviation of poverty and its role in enabling the world to overcome the increasing levels of poverty through food and sustainable agricultural programs that are designed to empower the populations hit by high poverty levels in their efforts to eradicate poverty permanently. The author’s purpose of writing this was to look into issues that are concerned with health and education. The book says that with respect to the sector of educational services, having more enrolments in education system requires that the quality and relevance of education in the labor market today be increased. The authors are very categorical about food and poverty. They assert that at the health sector level, acute shortage of drugs and medical equipment increases because of the insufficient funds which are continuously diminishing due to poverty. Alan Freeman holds, in his book, that more open trade and globalization have an increasing effect on the incomes of the poor and the per capita income. However, he says that this does not necessarily increase inequality systematically. The knowledge in this book is significant to the global study of poverty since it illustrates a dramatic effect on solutions considered potential to poverty. As the topic of the journal article suggests, it provides a synopsis of the world statistics of poverty and addresses the millennium goals of the United Nations and the position of developing countries in the poverty index in the whole world. She identifies the emerging trends in the measurement of poverty as well in this book. This helps us understand and compare the vast and unique dynamics of world poverty existing in different world regions. Alters Sandra in her book discusses the reason why the millennium goals of the United Nations are more important far much beyond just representing the global justice and fundamental human rights. She says in her book that the goals acts as a springboard to a further growth and international economic development apart from just being ends to themselves. He does this through examining both global and domestic actions that can possibly reduce levels of poverty in the world. The author says that poverty as global issue can best be addressed by first looking at the domestic actions required to eliminate it because such actions have greater impact on the poor people and their lives. Jan Narveson addresses the roles played by the International Monetary Fund and the Multinational Development Banks in alleviating poverty both at the global level and country level. He says that these institutions provide technical and financial support, policy advice as well as ensuring that public good are provided and the international rules are clearly shaped to accommodate everyone. This article helps readers see the significance and the effects of partnership, collaboration and involvement in fighting global poverty. He also highlights the benefits of joining hands in addressing poverty issues. The purpose of the article is to address the determinants of poverty as well as the possible solutions. Samuelson describes the responsibilities of the society in addressing poverty from a global level as well as from a domestic level. With this he targets the specific countries that are reluctant to take actions against poverty. In his article, Samuelson assert that fighting global poverty is an important priority to the world, and therefore should be done in a more sober way to include everyone in the campaign.
