Leadership Roles and Management Functions in Nursing - Admission/Application Essay Example

Leadership Roles and Management Functions in Nursing Leadership is a term used to label the process of influencing others in order to achieve organizational aims and objectives. A leader can influence through several ways, a leader can be an example and can lead others by setting an example out of their own hard work. One such leading figure in my life have been my mother, who has not only been able to lead me, but other siblings of mine as she has led from the front and have set an example out of her activities for us.

This writing will first focus on one of the functions that a leader has to conduct and in light of this function this paper will analyze how the person I have selected is a leader. Next, this paper will focus on two personality characteristics that affirm that the person I have selected is a true leader. Gardner is of the opinion that six functions are essential for a person to assume both the positions of a leader and a manager at the same time. These functions include: having a vision of future aims and objectives, helping others understand and providing them knowledge, being the leading and renowned figure of a particular group, working in the best interest of the group while dealing with third parties and helping the organization in adapting change (Marquis 44).

One of the Gardner’s functions that have been well accomplished and exercised by my mother is having a vision of future aims and objectives. While conducting this function she has always thought about the long term and while she makes decision she ensures that the decision should not only benefit her group under current scenario, it should even benefit the group in the long run. One example that really reflects that my mother has taken decisions in accordance to this function is that she decided that I and my siblings need to attend good schools and should opt for better higher education.

She believed the by gaining goo primary education, we can develop well and in future our well developed state will be accepted by good higher educational institutes. One of the leadership traits that really make my mother a leader is that she has the ability and the persona to motivate others. She has been able to motivate me and my siblings while being an example. At a very young age she started taking care of her mother and her house as her father died quite early. She provided food and good living conditions to her mother and single handedly ensured that she has a good future.

Another trait that is exhibited by my mother through her behavior is self confidence. She is a kind of person who will take the toughest of challenges as she believes in herself and is quite confident.My mother is a leader as she carries out the function of envisioning a better future and she has the traits of high self confidence and ability to motivate others.
