Argumentative Essay – The World’s Biggest Criminal (Osama bin Laden) When it comes to criminals, Osama bin Laden’s takes the lead. He was the most wanted man on the face of the earth until he was killed on 2nd May 2011 by the US Navy SEALs in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The reason why Osama bin Laden was hailed as an international criminal and terrorist was because he had been involved in setting up the banned outfits Al-Qaeda and the attached wing Taliban. What these groups brought to the fore was massive killing of people all around the globe (Searcey 2011).

Their number one priority was to make sure that the so-called Muslim preaching was made significant yet they conducted their own attacks, all in the name of the religion of Islam. Osama bin Laden, along with his close aides was able to gather a great amount of hate all over the world for these activities. I am of the view that once Osama bin Laden was caught, he should not have been killed since he was unarmed. As he has slaughtered thousands of people worldwide, it would have been better had he been captured alive.

If this was done, the number one criminal would have been taken to the United States where criminal proceedings shall have been held. But this was not to be, and Osama bin Laden was killed which essentially closed the chapter once and for all. Since he was required by the US government dead or alive, the US Navy SEALs only found it appropriate to kill him and then take his body forward. I do not think this served the purpose since his death did not teach people a lesson as his capturing alive would have.

His conviction would have sent a totally unique message to all the criminals and terrorists all over the globe. But then again, he was killed which is reason enough for happiness on the part of the international community that demanded nothing less than his capture (Dedman 2011). After all, he had been hiding within Afghanistan and Pakistan for the last 10 years, which meant immense operational costs that were being incurred just to find a single individual – which in this case with the biggest criminal that the world had ever seen or heard of.

After his death, he was taken away by the US Navy SEALs and dropped in the Indian Ocean since no country was ready to take his body. I am of the view that under such a scenario, it would have been better to take his body to the United States and take some photographs so that these were made public. But sadly, this did not come about which left many people to have apprehensions about his killing in the first place. There are controversies regarding the assumption that perhaps there was no operation that took place on the night of 2nd May, 2011.

Then again, a helicopter broke down in the Abbottabad compound where Osama bin Laden lived, which testifies the fact that the operation had actually taken place. Making no photographs public to the world meant that the apprehensions will continue to increase as time fades by. I opine that the US government missed a trick by not making his photographs available to the world. Also some of his photographs and a possible video at the time of his dropping in the Indian Ocean would have asked people to understand the philosophy behind doing so, but unfortunately this was not to be (Baldor 2011).

My argument takes the lead here because Osama bin Laden was a huge name when it came to terror. Leaving no traces whatsoever in his killing and the eventual disposal of his body would have only added to the speculations which actually came about. However, the world has become a better place without his worse self alive. I would have done anything to get Osama bin Laden because he was someone whom everybody detested and more so since the 9/11 event of the 2001 took place (Oborne 2011). He has been the symbol of shame and hatred all over the world.

The fact that he wasted such a huge amount of money, lives and resources on his search goes to show the kind of desperation the US government and its allied forces had to capture him – dead or alive. I am certain many people all over the world think on the same patterns as I do because Osama bin Laden is one name that nobody wanted to hear. It is good that he is no more alive today as he was rightly the biggest criminal of our times and will continue to haunt us as and when a criminal or terrorist activity takes place.
