On the other hand, there are drawbacks that mainly affect the lower-class citizens of the host nation, who represent the majority of the citizens. This paper looks into some of the advantages and disadvantages expected to feature in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Some of the challenges that come about from hosting the competition include the safety of the people who will be present in the competition and the cost implications of the event on the country. In order to host this international event, it is necessary to develop the country’s infrastructure to a certain level, which requires a large financial outlay (Oldenboom, 21). Even though the country receives international financial support, it mainly funds the development from taxes. The majority of the citizen in Brazil is poor, and most of them cannot afford the tickets to watch the game yet they have to pay for the infrastructural development. On the other hand, it is requisite to guarantee the security of the tourists, as well as the citizens in the country, which might be difficult to achieve. Among the benefits that come about from hosting such an event, includes an improvement of the nation’s tourism industry. The media attention that will be accorded to the country will also be an avenue through which the country can be able to show the world some of its beaches, and some of its amazing sights of nature, consequently attracting more tourists to the country even after the international event(Oldenboom, 23). ...
