Your full February 20, Reflection Paper Arlie Horschild, in his book “The Second Shift”, has evoked one of the most serious issues of modern times; that is, women working outside their homes just as men. The rise in inflation and modernity, also called feminism, has made women come out of their homes and work just like and just the same amount of work as men. However, their familial responsibilities do not change, and they have to make a second shift when they go home, to look after the children, clean the house, cook meal, and prepare for the next day.

This way, their responsibilities double, as they are working outside as well as inside their homes. This is because gender roles do not change, only the demanding circumstances of modern times have made women leave the coziness of homes and come out to earn their bread and butter. Women had to take on more work, to meet the both ends meet. This has, however, taken a toll on marital relationships, as the quarrels between husbands and wives have increased. Men’s ego does not allow women to be superior or even equal to them, and demanding circumstances of today do not allow women to stay at home and make both ends meet just through one income.

So, they have to come out and work. Men must understand the sensitivity of the issue, and must give women proper regard, as it is today that women have become counter parts or better halves of men in a real sense. They should give women more respect than ever before. Works CitedHorschild, Arlie. The Second Shift. New York, NY: Penguin Group US, 2012.
