Extract of sample "Sense of Motivation"

Reader Response The listed poem seeks to derive a sense of motivation as one fight for the best. Only those who do not quit stand a chance of enjoying the fruits of success. Hard earned success is always sweet and we should remain persistent to our endeavors with a belief that winning is a choice and losing is an option. Poets present their message in a distinct manner as they use variant literary methods. Nevertheless, a critical analysis will derive the deeper meaning of any poem. This paper will develop a critical response to a poem and the text itself with a view of defining my understanding of this piece of literature. Ideally, it is factual that the pursuit to any goal is always very challenging and obstacles can prevent somebody from achieving the desired goals. Doubts will always jeopardize our chances of succeeding. Notably, perseverance is what distinguishes winners from losers and quitters never win. With utmost dedication and perseverance, we can overcome all the challenges in our journey to success and emerge as victors. The poem starts with a serious acclamation urging the audience to “Roll the dice…. if you’re going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, do not even start.” This statement seeks to encourage the audience to start the pursuit, take chances, take risks, and make a commitment with a hope to succeed. Ideally, rolling the dice signals the beginning of a game of chances where the player can either win or lose. Nevertheless, despite the possibility of negative result, a dedicated player must make up their mind, start the game, and hope to win. The poet asserts that such a decision should not carry any doubts and the audience must commit themselves to the end. Indeed, trying is always not enough since the end justifies the means. A double-hearted person will mostly lose because they do not believe in themselves and in the system. As such, the poet urges the audience to persevere and go all the way to the end if they dare to try. After all we can only ascertain the end result if the player finishes the challenge. Otherwise, the poet notes that there is no need to start the pursuit if one does not have a commitment to go all the way. Indeed, having double standards, doubts, and lack of confidence will lead to poor results of the pursuit. The poet goes ahead to establish the possible challenges and consequences that might arise from such a commitment. Ideally, in making a serious decision to pursue a certain goal to the end with all means, one must denounce so many things, people, pleasures, and other opportunities. As such, in the pursuit, one is likely to face numerous challenges that may include opposition from friends, families, relatives, workmates, and one’s inner feelings. As the poet reckons, such a commitment will require huge sacrifice, fasting, and a deep conscience. Indeed, the pursuit might subject somebody to serious mockery, humiliation, oppression, derision, and rejection. One must overcome such obstacle to succeed in life. Notably, such an endeavor might too risky to subject somebody to jail terms. Indeed, somebody might engage on an illegal mission without his or her knowledge thus leading to a conflict with the law. Such factors may lead to rejection, loss of employment, loss of friendship, and serious discrimination as the poet notes. The poet notes that all these challenges are tests of one’s endurance and commitment towards a certain goal and isolation acts as a gift that helps one to focus on the main target with few distractions. Nevertheless, the poet notes that a dedicated person will overcome all these challenges and succeed. The poet depicts the sweetness of such a pursuit by claiming that trying, going all the way, and overcoming the numerous challenges develops such a sweet feeling. Indeed, overcoming the obstacles in one’s pursuit is the aim of all humans since there is joy in being a victor. In that mood of success, a victor feels like they are on another world where they interact with spirits and the gods. The poet claims that their nights will be like the day since flames of fire will light their dark paths. These statements encourage the audience to try to soldier on to the end. The poet encourages the audience that by perseverance, they will ride life straight to perfect laughter. This depicts the sweet ending of a long successful struggle. Indeed, success is such a sweet experience. Nevertheless, the poet asserts the true nature of life by telling the audience that such a struggle is the only good fight that they can and must engage in. Ideally, life is all about risks, chances, and struggles and only the fit survives. We must strive through all means to secure a good life as the poet narrates. The poet encourages the audience by using various literary methods like repetition to emphasize on the need for commitment. For instance, he repeats the phrases “do it” and “go all the way” to encourage the audience to persevere for success to come. Moreover, the poet repeats the phrase “if you’re going to try” to develop the concept of double standards and doubts in a pursuit as well as to encourage the audience to make a firm decision and stick to the mission. The recitation is quite easy to understand and the poet succeeds in passing the message to the audience. In conclusion, I establish that the pursuit of any goal is always very challenging and obstacles can prevent somebody from achieving the desired goals. However, it takes a dedicated person to make a firm commitment to the pursuit for one to succeed in the challenging journey. As the poet establishes, the journey to success has many challenges, requires many sacrifices, and can lead to unwarranted consequences. However, after overcoming such challenges, one derives a sweet feeling and enjoys the success. As such, it is worth taking the challenge with the hope of succeeding and establishing good life. After all, just as the poet reckons, every human being must participate in the struggle for success since it is the only good fight. The poet uses various literary methods to pass this message to the audience in an effective manner. Read More
