Different levels of education equip individuals with different levels of knowledge. These may include advanced understanding of several concepts that cannot be easily understood at some point in life. The concepts that are taught in colleges are more refined, more insightful as well as more advanced compared to those of high schools (Lilly, 2011). However, this does not refute the importance of high schools in imparting knowledge to students. This follows that for any determined and serious individuals, they can use the knowledge gained from high schools to bring major breakthroughs in their lives, as well as to the world in general. However, the question of importance of college studies sets in. Several critics have doubted whether there is any relevance of college studies to people. This follows that several key individuals have succeeded in their lives, ending up bringing major changes to the world at large (Lilly, 2011). However, these individuals never completed their college education. This paper is going to discuss the importance of college education to the success of individuals as well as the general good for the world. It is going to determine whether college education is worthy or worthless with regards to several breakthroughs that the world currently experiences following few cases of individuals who never completed their college education but has made it in life. It is of critical importance to acknowledge the fact that education plays a big role in bringing success in all scopes of life. Education opens the doors to opportunities in an appropriate time. Different levels of education brings forth different opportunities with regards to the nature of education an individual gets. However, regardless of the level of success, without education, there are great possibilities that such may fail. Education is the bedrock as well as the foundation to all developments that people enjoy today (Cohen, 2013). In line with this, it is of crucial significance to acknowledge the fact that education imparts a lot of knowledge in human beings. However, there are different ways in which people may use such knowledge to attain certain levels of independence as well as success. Different people may use the same knowledge in different ways to come up with different things. This follows the fact that people are not equal in terms of cranial advancements, thoughts as well as determinations. However, it is prudent to concur with the notion that education is power. It is significant to acknowledge the fact that college education is worthy in several perspectives. In most instances, people always study to gain self-independence. This may be a form of independence that cuts across several sectors of human life. These sectors may range from education, employment, opinion as well as governance. College is the place to be in order to achieve any form of independence (Ellsberg, 2011). No matter the quality of education or the duration that one takes in college, knowledge is acquired. The knowledge gained from such can be applied in several ways in order to attain independence in various ways. Therefore, it is not a must that a person has to complete college education in order to be approved to have gained knowledge. Irrespective of the time taken in such institutions, what matters most is the quality of knowledge that is externally sourced, as well as, the level of quality of inherent knowledge, capabilities and aspirations as refined, modified and enlightened by the nature of knowledge acquired from the institution. Thus, college education is of crucial importance in several perspectives. It equips the students with more refined and advanced external sources of knowledge (Potts, 2005). It trains students on how to append insight probes to issues academic as well as come up with advanced perceptions, views as well as ideas (Ellsberg, 2011). This is irrespective of the duration that one takes in college. This means that one needs to attend college to get such insightful thoughts and ideas. However, upon getting such knowledge, one may decide to drop out of college at some point in order to actualize his dreams, but using the knowledge gained from college irrespective of time spent in college. A good example to depict this fact concerns the world most famous technological gurus including Mark Zuckergerg who is the founder of Facebook, Steve Jobs of Apple, Bill Gates of Microsoft as well as Jack Dorsey and Evan Williams, both of whom cofounded Twitter (Cohen, 2013). It is a fact that most if not all of these personalities attended college at some point in their lives. This means that whatever the duration they took before dropping out of college, they gained some form of education. This education guided them through in becoming whom they are today. Therefore, it is of crucial importance to acknowledge the fact that college education is worth. However, one may argue that the issue of college worthiness is complicated drawing from the fact that most technological gurus were once college dropouts. In this case, even though it seems convincing, the truth of the matter is that these personalities attended college education at some point in their lives (Pew Research Centre, 2011). In most instances, most people always attend schools in order to put them in better positions of acquiring jobs. However, not all people who attend higher education always have target of getting jobs. This follows that some people always attend schools as they are already employed. So attending higher institutions of learning like colleges is always meant to equip the individuals with additional knowledge on how to carry out certain necessary activities in life. Such can lead to creation of jobs. College education equips one with ability to create even more jobs. This follows that college education makes one think logically, creatively and live ethically (Ellsberg, 2011). It is of crucial significance to note that nearly all employers in the corporate world are looking for the elites who will bring major changes and progress in their companies. These individuals must be products of institutions of higher learning like colleges and universities. Therefore, despite the challenges that surround payments of fees as well as the problems people meet in college education, it is prudent to acknowledge that college is worth. Several graduates have concurred with the fact that college education proved a satisfactorily good investment in their lives (Pew Research Centre, 2011). This is also evident in the way the currently known world technological gurus have been famous. It is a fact that before they dropped out of college, they acquired some knowledge that was necessary in coming up with, as well as, fleshing up their passions and dreams. This is the core reason why currently there is social sites that people can freely interact. Knowledge is knowledge no matter the duration it is acquired. However, advanced knowledge must just come from advanced learning institutions like colleges where people meet mentors and professionals in different fields of study. The acquisition of the advanced knowledge and its application in bringing good is subject to the individual’s capability, determination and attitude but not duration (Pew Research Centre, 2011). However, one may argue that college education is not worth. This may follow the financial expenses incurred in such institutions. Again, the quality of education that students get may be considered low. This may persuade one to conclude that college education is not worth. This may be backed with the examples of Steve Jobs, founder of Microsoft, Mark Zuckerberg and many others who have made it in the technological world despite dropping out of college. However, this is not the case. The fact that these people dropped out of college means that at one point they were in college. The knowledge as well as the professionals whom they met there may made major contributions to their success. However, sincerely speaking, college education is not merely on technological advancements. College education focuses on many fields in life not merely technology (Cohen, 2013). Nevertheless, it equips many with several ideas that are applicable in all the social, economic and political spectra, without which life can be unbearable. Certainly, if someone wants to become a doctor or an engineer, the same person must attend a college (Ellsberg, 2011). The complexity of the matter may arise on answering the question as to why several people yearn to go to college despite the challenges associated. The reasoning behind parents defying the odds and pay exorbitant fees for their children to study in colleges. The answer to these questions is the worth of college education, advanced knowledge and opportunities it presents to a person’s life. In summary, it is of crucial significance to highlight that college has several advantages in a person’s life. It presents many opportunities in life. In addition, it equips one with advanced knowledge that can be universally applied in all sectors of life. College education is also important in nurturing and developing healthy ideas for survival. Therefore, it is prudent enough to conclude that college is worth. References Cohen, R. 2013. The Richness of Learning. The Washington Post Company.
