The Investigator 26/03 The Kansas Hyatt Regency Disaster Due to the disaster that hit the Kansas Hyatt Regency and the consequent loss of lives, several investigations have been carried out. It has come to our attention that the tragedy could have in several ways been avoided had the involved parties acted ethically and within their codes of conduct.The several factors that had led to the tragedy including:1. Improper design due to poor consideration of all forces acting on a connection like those associated with volume changes.2. Poor preparation of mating surfaces and installation of connections.3. Insufficient provisions for mobility androtation.4. Improper design utilizing abrupt section changes that resulted to concentration of stress.5. Wearing out of materials in a joint.6. Ignoring the large stresses that arise due to thefabrication.

The Engineer and the fabricator are responsible for the fabricator were responsible for checking the safety of the building was up to standard. After the first collapse,it might be the case that the engineer approved the untenable design for reasons like: saving time, saving money or misunderstanding the consequence of his actions. In these case it was unethical to approve of such a design and the consequence has seen the loss of 114 people and serious injuries to more than 200. By approving such designs the fabricator and the engineer broke their code of conduct which includes responsibility and vision.

In future the engineer and a fabricator lack of consideration before approving the construction was a case of neglect.
