Comparison of Donatello’s David and Michelangelo’s image Comparison of Donatello’s David and Michelangelo’s image of the David, and their stylistic difference between their two respective periodsIt is evident that Donatello’s and Michelangelo have a different subject on their images. They share a similar biblical subject, antique period and sculptural form. However, they have a difference in a manner that reflects their respective embodiments of the ancient Renaissance styles. The major difference between the two images is the fact that both were taken during a battle where each of the artists was entitled to choose on what to discuss.

Donatello’s image of DavidAccording to Donatello’s image of David, it stands in a victorious manner above the head of a foe, he has is head bowed in a feminine gesture of reflection. This picture is of an idealized male nude image that was common during the ancient days. Michelangelo’s image of DavidMichelangelo has the image of David before he went to the battle. The image stands in a proud position that it is depicted as a perfect depiction for a warrior preparing for war.

He has a sling on his hand, which is the only iconographic reference of the entire piece. He has his head inclined on one direction staring at the distance with a fearful gaze. This image of David is not shy but a sign of an individual on the verge of adulthood. In conclusion both images depict their artistic ability that depicted the occurrence of events and characters of David during the Renaissance period.ReferencesBarnet, S. (2008). A short guide to writing about art.
