I believe Blume recreated repressive social norms that surround teen sexuality; he did not show their liberation and did not talk about their natural drive towards sex.
Trites does not tolerate the idea of LGBTQ sexuality, the writing shows that there is no support for it and it is not tolerated. However, this is not the same case with Blume, who can be said to have openly brought the discussion of homosexuality and loosen the stigma that is often associated it. Levithan is able to create a society and a setting where differences in orientation do not matter. Although this is not directly highlighted there seems to be a lot of implication towards it.
Blume argues that teenagers are not given the natural setting to blossom and express themselves with each for this reason they are not honest about their feelings. This is a result of societal pressure. I tend to believe that Blume is more honest about sexuality than Blume, this is because he shows that the society had contributed a lot to sexual repressions among teenagers which is true.
