I developed skills which are necessary to function as a teacher which included the ways to manage children in class, ways to manage the staff so as to ensure a proper learning atmosphere in class. I also developed skills like communication management through understanding the proper communication techniques to interact with students (Bourner, 2003). In the process of teaching and understanding students I also acquired skills like well spoken English and Mathematical skills. In order to make students learn the teachers have to understand and use proper language and have a good command over the subject they teach. Thus I had to improve my language to be able to communicate with students and also improve my mathematical skills to be able to teach them effectively (Bain et. al., 2002).
The things that surprised me during my placement am the fact that children of level 3 and 4 are much more sharper and intelligent than we think the y are. They have an innocent view of the society which they are constantly trying to figure out through the discussions in classroom and with their parents. The other thing that intrigued me was the intelligence level of level 3 or 4 students is quite high and to teach them any subject one has to be totally though with the topics in the first place. The students ask pertinent and relevant questions which sometimes gets difficult to answer if one does not have a good command over the subject.
Through these expiriences I could understand the thought process of the studenst currently enrolled in level 3 and 4 in schools across the country. I could also underatnd the ways that students find easy to understand and grasp the subjects. This will help me in my research on school children and the communication styles they understand for effective learning.
