What does the character think about the crimes Bigger commits? What does the character think of Bigger’s punishment? Bigger My name is Bigger Thomas and I am a murder. I have killed two women and declare about those crimes to all of you. I am a murder and it is inevitable now. I do commit this misdeeds, and now I feel regret about it. The matter is that I am a Negro, and those people are regarded as lower race in America in 30s years. We have no right for a normal existence and such fact irritates me (Wright, 40-42). White people consider themselves as a higher race and occupy upper ranks in the society. We are supposed to serve under control of white people. I have served as a chauffeur in Mr. Dalton. That has been his daughter whom I have killed. This proceeding remains to be fully unintentional. Moreover, I confess that it is happened because of prejudices that white people always have in accordance to Negroes. In that very moment I have been afraid of Mrs. Dalton who can notice me in the room of her lovely daughter. Still, I must admit that I feel delight and “sees it as a defiance of the white people” who have made me so miserable (Gallantz and Bromberg, 11). I hate the white race, and recognize them as complacent and haughty people. As for the second murder, it is considered to be my girlfriend Bessie Mears. I have told her everything about last night and have intentions to protect her in such a way. Otherwise, police will take her and she will suffer because of my mistake. My decision has been to deprive her from such fate. My punishment is hard and rigid, but my crimes are also cruel and ruthless. What I want to notice is that white people should also feel guilt for those proceedings because they are enforced me to commit them. Mary I am Mary and I have been smothered by our chauffeur Bigger. I think that he commits my murder inadvertently, but I cannot excuse him. He is a murder and should respond to his proceedings. I have been drunk in that night; moreover I have taken the driver by deception. I have told my parents that I have a meeting at the university, but I have drive to my boyfriend by whom my parents are not very pleased. The matter is that Jan is a communist and his political views diverge from my father’s ones. However, we have shown a nice attitude to Bigger. We have tried to talk with him and call him to communicate with our friends. He has seemed frightened because of our actions, but we have drunk a lot, and have not thought about his feelings and comfort in this very moment. I must admit that in the process of his murdering me I have gave him a signs that I cannot breathe, but he has not stopped. I understand that Bigger has been afraid of punishment for being with me in my room, and I know that he has not wanted my mother to recognize him. Still, how he could dare to deprive me life because of his fear. Moreover, he has decided to burn me in the furnace, and because of inconvenience he has needed to cut off my head. I consider such actions as unforgiving and ruthless. What is more this killer has raped and murdered his girlfriend what is amorally and inhuman. I suppose that Bigger should be punished fully and entirely, that is why his sentence is regarded as fair and right. This murder should get his just deserts. Mr. Dalton I cannot believe that I have taken this murder to work on me. Firstly, he has seemed a nice guy with small possibilities in this world. I have decided to help him a little and accept Bigger to work as a driver, but I must pay a life of my daughter for my kindness to him. I do not understand why Bigger has thanked me in such a way. I have believed him, and his story in the morning about Mary’s night leaving has not evoked suspicious thoughts in my mind. I have vouched for Bigger, and he respond me in a cruel way. I should admit that I hate this Negro not only because he is a murder but also because his victim is considered to be my daughter. Moreover, he has tried to deceive our family and has blamed on guiltless man. Bigger cannot be justified and cannot be excused by society in general and our family directly. I regard his as a socially dangerous man and amoral freak. That is why I think that this Negro has deceived such hard punishment as death on the electric chair. I even confess that it is too small punishment for him. Max My name is Boris Max and I am a layer with the communist’s views. Actually, I am the only person why tries to help and understand Bigger’s situation. Yes, he is a murder, but I am able to recognize why Bigger commit this crimes. The matter is that this man has no other choice and has been confused and frightened in the moment of killing Mary. After that series of events is caused harder implications that are considered to be inevitable and terrific. Bigger’s problem is his hatred to the social status of people like him and blaming for that white people. He has intended to live another life, but he has crippled his own. I do remember our first conversation when Bigger has told me that now he can do nothing and it is better to die for him in such situation (Wright, 320). That means that he understands what he has committed and has felt some guilt for that. I want to admit that this man has just tangled in his life and desired to subsist in different way and different society. His life is remained to be hard and not everyone can accept it. So does Bigger. He has not wanted to take his life the way it is, but he has expressed this revolt in a cruel and ferocious way. All in all, I must mention that he has committed a crime and he has deserved such kind of punishment. I understand his revolt, but his actions are unacceptable.
