I have considered the structure of the first three pages of the document that comprise of title page, notes for students and teachers, and the purpose of the document. By these, I ought to declare that the current technology-oriented and time-sensitive reader is not very interested in scrolling down, page after page in webpages or document viewers to understand what a document is all about and what it aims at portraying. I would like to point out to you that space, being brief and to the point, and promoting document message in a much visually friendly manner is a virtue if one is to effectively portray his/her communication message through documents, webpages, and other forms of communication media to the contemporary reader.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency’s efforts to promote human health through the designing or environmental science projects suggests that it would hold a science fair aimed to be fun. However, I have five problems with the first page on the document published to carry this information. Firstly, the fonts used, regardless of whether the science fair targets 6th and 8th graders, is poor and does not give the illusion that the project is to be any serious that just another government-sponsored excuse to waste taxpayers’ money. Secondly, the term ‘Fun’ in the total ‘ Science Fair Fun’ does not sync properly or at all with the crafted shirt, tie, and shovel images – 6th and 8th graders are much likely to find this combination to portray a day or a period of academic hard labor. Thirdly, the rule and Soap image in the first page is quite confusing especially to audiences with specific interest to detail – these two do not create harmony.
