Lecturer Essay # Where There's a Will, there’s a Way When Beowulf successfully fought the dragon and sustained an injury on the neck, he gave his will and testament. He knew he was not going to survive; the inquiry was severe. He stated that his son receives the full armor and money. This was the heir God had given him, and his son being born of his body, he was like him. He requested to see the treasure he had liberated. According to him, death was going to be easier if he saw the hoard he had successfully liberated.

Wiglaf went to the barrow and brought Beowulf the treasure. Beowulf thanked God for the treasure he had won for his people after successfully fighting the dragon. It was God’s grace that enabled him to bring the treasure to his people. His plans for the kingdom were that Wiglaf looks after the Geats. He told Wiglaf to take what he had left behind, and lead the people and help them. After his death, he wanted his body to be burned or cremated. After the flames die down, he wanted the brave people of Geats to build him a high tomb near the water edge so that sailors could see the tower and remember his name.

He wanted his people to have something that would remind them of him. The tower was to be called Beowulf’s Barrow. He then gave Wiglaf the collar from his neck and immediately died.
