Figure 1: Dorothea, Lange. 1936. Destitute pea pickers in California. Mother of seven children. Age thirty-two. Nipomo, California (LOC). Flickr, a Yahoo company. Web. 11Th April 2015. Digital Image.
I am intrigued by how the characters in this image seem to be in different worlds though sharing the same settings. This is evident in the way the mother seems not to notice what is going on due to being in deep thought due to desperation. Judging from the look on her face, it is undeniable even she did not notice whether the photographer who was taking this image except her two children on the sides hid their faces. Probably, this is due to the desperation their family is experiencing, which is the main aspect that stands out in this image. Hence, prompts the photographer to end up interested in taking the image, which is also the case it has remained to date in libraries to show utter human desperation. I think the 32-year-old mother, in this case, is pondering the next move in her quest to find how she will feed her family of 7 children, which was not easy given the then deplorable conditions she was in then.

Figure 2: Marion, Wolcott. 1939. Jitterbugging in Negro juke joint, Saturday evening, outside Clarksdale, Mississippi (LOC). Flickr, a Yahoo company. Web. 11Th April 2015. Digital Image.
The most interesting thing in this image is how the joyful dancers seem to try the then style while singing along to the song. Read More
