Should the Baltimore rioters be seen as criminals? ities including the president of the United s of America have termed the people involved in the Baltimore as criminals and thugs. Such statements may be valid considering that the damages caused and the events of that day were absolutely criminal. However, some suggests that these were just opportunists who used their chance to challenge the authorities. Some of the residents who were interviewed even went to the extent of suggesting that the City is enjoyable when it is chaotic and that the peaceful way is not interesting.

According to the authorities they have concluded that the rioters are criminal but the people of Baltimore see it differently. Whether they are people who have deified the law and have no respect for security, the riots seem to have an accumulation of bitterness and frustration. Seeing even mothers carrying their young babies and people not afraid of being arrested sends another message. The people are not ashamed of their action though sorry for the damage of property. Instead, they are proud that at least their voices were heard and they are ready to do it again if that’s the way to be listened to.

When all these factors are taken into consideration, I think it could wrong to classify the rioters as criminals. Even though, they engaged in activities that broke the law, it was simply because they had to act for somebody to realize they exist and services and opportunities. These are frustrated and angered people who wanted attention and they are not necessarily criminals (Bruce pg. 17).Work CitedBruce, Mary. Baltimore Rioters Not Just ‘Thugs’ and ‘Criminals’. ABC News.
