Wild Seed: A close assessment of Gender Roles and Power

The intention of this study is the book called Wild Seed that focuses on various issues experienced by African American Women during the years of slavery. These issues include physical and sexual abuse and the problem of reproduction. The novel focuses on characters who are immortal and who exist during the period of 1690 to 1840. One of the characters is Doro and the character has the ability to takeover others soul and cause the death of the souls of people he takes over. The second main character is Anyanwu who has the ability to heal others and can possess both human and animal form. The novel focuses on the conflict between the two characters and how Anyanwu tries to stop Doro from developing a race of immortals. The novel focuses on the themes of desire as well as influence and is even a complete experience of different personalities. The author uses her imagination to focus on various social issues such as gender and authority and that is what she has done in the novel Wild Seed. Most of her literary works focus on similar issues. For example, in the novel Wild Seed she depicts that Doro is a powerful male character who is using his power to influence Anyanwu into having a sexual intercourse with other males in order to make her bear their children. Doro uses the coercive technique of threatening her as well as her children to attain what he wants. On the other hand Anyanwu is against Doro and his plans but she enters into a sexually intimate relationship with Doro.
