Guidelines for older adult The older persons who should follow these guidelines should be generally fit with no major health condition that might limit their mobility. The older people should do the following: i. At least 2 ½ hours of moderate aerobic activity like walking or cycling, canoeing, playing double tennis every week, and ii. Strength exercises on either 2 or more days that will help in working the major muscles such as chest, hips, legs, abdomen, shoulders, and arms. OR i. 1 ¼ hours of intense aerobic activity like running, fast swimming, martial arts and ii.

They can opt for a mix of intense and moderate aerobic activity every week. For instance, ½ an hour of fast walking, then two ½ hours runs is equivalent to moderate aerobic activity, and ii. Strength exercises on either 2 or more days that will help in working the major muscles such as chest, hips, legs, abdomen, shoulders, and arms. Why should older adults participate in physical activity?

It is very important for older adults to stay and improve their health. In order for the older adults to stay and improve their health, there are two types of physical activity that they should engage in every week: strength exercise and aerobic. Older people are persons who are the age of 65 and above. The older adults who engage in physical activities also have the benefit of improving their balance by involving in physical activities such as yoga, dancing and tai chi. Physical activities have the capability of improving the immune system in older adults.
