Romantic love Term love it attributes to aspect of emotional feeling and attachment of one person to another. In the field of psychology, it refers to aspects of sexual, intellectual as well as social affection that a person demonstrates. A thesaurus list related concepts to love which include: adore, desire, prefer, possess, care for, serve, and even worship as similar concepts. Intimacy on the other hand is a close relationship where mutual acceptance, nurturance, and trust are shared at some level. In order to understand love in human relationships, you must first understand how the self either enhances or inhibits your capacity to love. Consequently, romantic love and close friendship relationships usually involve intimacy that is a form of love where two parties share in matters regarding their physical lives. Love is an affection among people that gives meaning to life and spurs vibrancy and vitality in the social construction. To human beings, love is one of the most profound emotions known and as exhibited from the thesis statement above, every person has an affinity to feel loved and wanted to make their lives interesting and bear meaning. Others seek romantic relationships where they are able to express their feelings to another compatible partner (preferably of opposite sex) as the main type of love. A romantic relationship for this reason is the most meaningful of elements in human lives that provides a deep source of fulfillment from the mutual association. In the first instance, the ability to have a loving and healthy relationship is not innate. A great deal of evidence suggests that love possess certain specific characteristics, the ability to form a stable relationship right from infancy. A child’s earliest experience of love may be from a caregiver who reliably meets the infants needs for food, protection, care, stimulation, and social contact. Consequently, romantic love is an invention of the modern world not an archaic relic. Most of historical societies did not experience or know love as compared to the modern society where individuals are allowed to make their individual, independent choices on the person their heart loves cutting across ethnic diversity, races and nationality. Popularly, parents would arrange marriages based on the families mutual attraction in the ancient days giving linking people with a destiny not of their own choice or selection. The modern society hence allows grounds for love to thrive and add meaning into life. As established by Griffin, “knowing what others thing help us decide on what we think. By learning from the insight and knowledge of others, we place ourselves in a dialogue with them” (p.12). This is a philosophy that has been amicably exhibited in our generation today. The American society has a rather perverted or modernistic perspective of love and more especially the romantic relationships. The way love was a communal aspect that meant sharing of materials and basic life aspects, this day in the modern society love is more on the intimacy terms rather than good relations. Romantic love is more favored, where one feels a sense of belonging and care from another partner whom they share the love with. In the story “The Sun Also Rises,” the four characters Krum, Jakes, Robert, and Woolsey tries to converse about love (Chapter 7, Barnet). Krum has a family but despises being in it since it gave him no time to go out. Ive meant to get over," said Krum. "You know how it is tough with wife and kids. The context shows that the romantic love of Krum to her wife is predictably worse and at stack. He always sees them as a barrier to him going out and having with friends. He exhibits deep distress over his dear brothers death and admiration for his wife. He knew the value of a great funeral but instead quickly turned mourning into celebration and moved on with Mirth in funeral and with dirge in marriage to whatever lies ahead (Chapter 1, Graves). The Queen chose to marry Claudius and even defended him over her son. In fact, she never opposed Claudius in anything. Love transcends over boundaries compelling one to do the extraordinary and bizarre things in life. In this case, Cladius is dark and sinister in all things; she would fear and despise him then follow her love for him. The events and activities roll out clearly when Claudius sends his son to death. In some ways, Claudius exhibited more heroism than Hamlet. He manipulated fortune and took what his was, but remained unapologetic for his actions (Maguire, 2009). He possessed enough strength to admit that he would do the same again. Hamlet, torn conscience to smite the morally deficient Claudius, caused the death of six innocent people before he accomplished his goal. He however felt compelled to take responsibility of his actions. Claudius mitigated his evil nature. In conclusion, the type of love a child experiences at the initial stages of life by the mother or better still the caregivers is equally important, children and human beings in general shape of life is determined by how the environment around them relates with them. In as much as romantic relationships are in more consideration by people in society, there is the first affection that draws them to this. Love is an uncontainable process and getting married and forming a family does not have to follow economic calculation but can base its actions on emotions or attraction. Ultimately, romantic love is therefore, described as a refuge from chaos, incomprehensible events, stirring feelings and irrational acts. This type of love needs controlling or subjection to rational outside criteria such as; religious motivations or the potential financial advantages gained from marriage. Relatively high number of severe disappointments and breakups are systematic experiences linked to a common perception of what love out to be (Malamud 14). The modern society has a different view, love portrayed in movies and books leave a disillusion, and dissatisfaction with real life relationship. Romantic love is thus both idealization and reality, not because it happens in the society that is full of contradictions. Such relationships are not destiny, but particularly appear to be established patterns relating to others. They are several reasons why some relationships do not work.
