?Question1 Being wise is one thing, being the chosen one is a thing to consider about; here we are discussing the bare facts about how we can relate Socrates actions with Jesus. If we look deeply we will find just one word describing both of them ‘knowledgeable’. One was sent to guide and the other considered him-self the wisest and decided to spread the truth. Over the years mankind has kept on saying ‘the truth is out there’, a simple statement which depicts that in order to get knowledge you need to search for it regardless of the era. Socrates was told he the wisest by an oracle thus took upon this theory and challenged himself to spread his knowledge to mankind. Jesus on the other hand was selected by the Supreme Being to save the people from committing the ‘original sin’. It’s been told that both Socrates and Jesus were blessed with some sort of divine power. It gets a little controversial by bringing religion under this discussion but the fact is that Jesus was a prophet, to prove that he is genuine, God sent down the Bible and the Quran as proof of Jesus’s existence. Whereas Socrates was only wise and he himself took the liberty in spreading knowledge. Both of these divine forces had a mission in hand and that was to establish some form of societal change. Socrates followed the philosophy of why life was worth living. He had wanted that all people should become capable of understanding the wrongs associated with the current order of life and without prior knowledge; this was the reason why Socrates could not stop himself to spread the truth. Jesus on the other hand was sent to earth to save us from the original sin. Both of them were unique in their own manner and apparently posed as a threat to the society that encircled them. Jesus and Socrates both were considered to be corrupt in their own patterns. This was the reason why both of them were brought to trial. Socrates questioned people about their differences in their religions and tried to focus their attention into a different style of worshiping God. For the already established order these two brought gathered to much attention to themselves and were hated amongst the majority. Both of them introduced new Gods and new ways of worship which challenged the Gods of those eras. Jesus claimed that there was only one God and proved to the people by performing miracles. Many peopled also claimed Jesus to be the word of God, the ‘King of the Jews’, which made him a threat and was viewed as the attempt for overthrowing monarchy. Socrates was charged with unorthodoxy by not having faith in in the cities of gods and was blamed of being an atheist in spite of having a clear faith in the divine power. Socrates is seen as the one with more knowledge than anyone else of his time. Like Jesus, he was unique with the power of speech-making and was able question people about their gods whom they believed in. Socrates claimed that there were gods like Zeus was not the only one being controlling everything that took place in the world, and the concept that followed the ‘will of gods’ was not true either. This was considered as an attack on the Athenian government; unbeliever in the cities of gods, not a citizen of the state. Both of them were given a trial before they were executed. Both of them had disciples of their own. Each had a person of their own who questioned about their beliefs and actions and someone who betrayed them in the end, one way or the other. Jesus was betrayed by Judas Iscariot for 30 pieces of silver and during the last supper all his followers questioned him one way or the other. The night before the death of Socrates, Crito visited him in prison and offered an escape route out of the country and to live as an outcast. A prophet is the person who speaks to and for God. Jesus did Gods work as per Gods will, although Socrates didn’t support any particular religion so we cannot depict him as a prophet. They both died for what they believed in and both of them were threatened by their teachings which varied from the daily routine. Question 2 Aeneid is a tragic tale, even if it is depicted as the living story of a Roman Hero who is trying his best to dwell into the past by fixing the future. The protagonist, Aeneas is a Trojan who is saddened over what happened to his city by the Greeks. He is, however, guided by the Gods who insist that he can take his revenge by building a new city that will conquer all. His only good part which is seen is the respect and understanding of will that he shows the Gods by listening to their every whim. Roman civilization did not come about because of Aeneas’s deed which were a bit satirical, to say the least. He believes his destiny lies in Italy and makes the journey towards it under the guidance of the Gods. He comes to the city of Carthage where he tricks Dido, intentionally or unintentionally, into falling in love with him after telling her about the heartbreaking events that happened during the Trojan War and how he escaped from it. They have a passionate love affair until he leaves her, again after being reminded by the Gods that he has a higher purpose to fulfill. He does not seem to be sorry at all for exploiting Dido and doesn’t think twice about going away without her who again portrays the harshness that really is the civilization with their wars and their women on a never ending scale. Aeneas makes his way towards Italy despite the many hardships and sufferings his people had to face, again because of a dream he had. The Gods play a mighty role in his actions throughout and out of everything he does, only his aspiration to please them is the only consistency throughout the whole of Aeneid which could prove to be the only light in Aeneas’s character. King Latinus, who is the King in Italy, is very hospitable to the Trojans because he believes that Aeneas is the one his daughter is supposed to get married to. The mother Amata means for Lavinia to marry Turnus though and together they form a plan which brings antagonism and enmity between the Italians and the Trojans. This is again a selfish deed performed on both parts. No one is interested in doing something for the greater good and all have their own plans and agendas on their mind. This is again not how a civilization works. Soon, a war ensues and military action is taken on both sides on a rather petty issue. This is another depressing factor that divides the tale of two communities. The War rages on where many are killed from both sides, including the son of Aeneas’s friend. This makes him very angry and slaying people is all that continues on forth. The public soon realizes that there will be no morally good end to this tragic tale and thus it is decided that Aeneas and Turnus will solve the problem by dueling hand to hand. But this does not solve anything and both parties continue to battle. In the end, victory lies on the side of the Trojan and Aeneas, remembering the slain son of his friend, shows no mercy towards Turnus and ends up killing him. The story has no happiness, no basis of foundation for any kind of rights or laws that could ensue towards a normal civilized community. Aeneas himself has no heroic charisma to his character and the Gods also do not move towards peace but rather cause a tumultuous chaos. ?Question3 Medea was from the far edge of the Black Sea during the Greeks of Euripides times, which was considered as the edge of the world. A powerful magician or commonly known as a sorceress, princess of the Colchis and a granddaughter of the sun who is known as the god Helias. Medea portrays herself as a mother, lover, widower, and sorcerer and on the same hand she depicts herself as a betrayer, murderer and a revenger. A woman displaying so many forms of characteristics surely explains how her life started and ended like. Medea a normal girl falls normally in love with a Greek hero known as Jason. They move from town to town, city to city to settle down when they finally find Lolcus. Medea commits acts of evil which started with mere understandings but later goes beyond imagination with her monstrosity. They are expressions of pure evil, and one does not show any morality or even the least clue of capacity for regret. Medea, in utter savagery, is unable of being a susceptible human. Medea’s love for Jason is not constrained. Her will is to defeat anyone to everyone who gets in her way. This thrilling nature is obvious right from the beginning and is probably her clarification of the line ‘she is madly in love’. Medea’s love goes beyond the standard and lucid restrictions. Certainly her insanity is beyond anyone’s knowledge. The objective of her love, or probably fascination, Jason tolerates the force of facing her terrifying temper. Although, she performs acts by committing sins to please Jason at first and everyone. She executes forms of treachery by stealing from her own father to be able to satisfy her husband, and then kills her very own brother in order to help Jason her husband escape. And she compels treachery of the highest order when she kills her own children, seeds if Jason. Love masters all. But in this illustration, it is hard to choose if it was deadly love or severe hate that asphyxiates, where she was skilled for both. She not only breaks her families trust, but also obligates the most dreadful act of all by murdering them. It’s hard to understand the degree of senselessness behind her actions. An offspring who steals from her own father, a brother killer and a children murderer; with the murder of her own children, she has extended the peak of her wickedness. Possibly the greatest sarcasm of all is that her greatest disappointment is also a demonstration of her utmost compensatory inferiority. Her life-threatening acts leave no uncertainty of her capability for dangerous love for Jason. If this went outside the standard and reasonable bounds, if we take the murders out of it this, we could see a weak woman extremely in love and got burned in the progression. The only reason behind her frightening acts was her unfathomable love for Jason. Jason’s engagements pushed her over the edge, making her perform in ways not understandable by any reason; it is hard to differentiate if what transpired is the result of transitory insanity or extreme callousness.
