Passionate or prudent love is the strongest and/or most ideal. Passionate love is that of having a particularly strong need for unification with another person. It involves a combination of feelings, emotions and behavior, for one to be able to experience this love. On the other hand, prudent love refers to the love that uses wisdom when handling issues. This love is keen to exercise proper judgment and employ common sense before coming to a decision. According to persuasion by Jane Austen it is right when one says that passionate or prudent love is the strongest and most ideal. Passionate love is seen where Anne cannot seem to wait to be reunited with Wentworth (Austen and Stevenson, 98). She is highly excited that she will see him again, and they will be together after close to eight years. Despite her silence, Anne comes out as a highly passionate woman. Her love for Wentworth did not fade in spite of the distance and time that they were apart. Initially when she broke off her engagement with Wentworth, she regretted having allowed herself to pay attention to the persuasions of her family and also to those of Lady Russell that the Captain was not a good match for her. Since she was young, she agreed in the hope that a better suitor would ask to marry her and that her family was willing to accept and embrace. The book tells the tale of a 27 year old woman. Anne Elliot, the heroine of the story, is the daughter of Sir Walter Elliot, a widower. She lives with her father and her elder sister, Elizabeth. Her younger sister Mary is married to an affluent man, Charles Musgrove. Sir Elliot is a spendthrift, and he drives his family into debts. In order to be able to manage their class and status, the Elliot family decides to move to a house in Bath where their expenses will be manageable and affordable (Murphy, 470). They then rent their family estate to Admiral Croft and his family who are rich and well behaved. For Anne, she is excited to meet the Crofts; since Mrs. Croft is the sister to the man she fell in love with for almost eight years. Unfortunately for her, she had to break off her engagement to Fredrick Wentworth after much persuasion from Lady Russell, who was her mother figure after the death of her mother, and a close advisor of the family. Anne’s hopes to see the man of her dreams after many years were now more of a reality to her; compared to the time she did not know when she would meet Wentworth again. While Sir Walter and his first born daughter set on their journey to Bath, Anne opts to remain with her younger sister Mary at the Upper cross Cottage for some time. During her stay, Anne gets to interact with the Musgrove family, and she enjoys their company. Mr. and Mrs. Musgroveare a bubbling couple with three mature children. They show clear affection for their children, something that draws them to her. News arrives that Wentworth, now a Captain has come back from the sea, and that he is currently a rich man (Weber, 78). Wentworth befriends Mr. Musgrove and begins to visit him on a daily basis. Anne’s anxiety to see Wentworth dies down when she realizes that his attitude towards her is friendly and polite. Furthermore, he seemed more interested with Mr. Musgrove’s daughters, Henrietta and Louisa. In this situation, Anne gives up hope of ever reuniting with Wentworth and prefers to spend her time with her nephews instead. Towards the end of the novel, Henrietta Musgrove and her sister Louisa, eventually find husbands and to Anne’s’ delight, none of the men is her long lost love, Wentworth. The Musgrove’s set out to Bath so as to find wedding clothes for their daughters. Captain Wentworth, together with his colleague and friend, Captain Harville, also travel to Bath. While there, in a public room, Wentworth overhears Anne and Harville discussing the comparisons between men and women when they are in love (Cohen, 126). Captain Harville is of the opinion that women are an unfaithful lot, and even books of literature supports his argument. Anne contradicts him by saying that women have always been harshly judged by men, and even in literature, men have used their pens to accuse women of all sorts of things. In addition, Anne argues that, for a long time, the men have enjoyed numerous advantages over women and so she cannot accept any judgment from the men as they are selfish and inconsiderate to women even in their writing. To Anne, faithfulness and loyalty are things that couples ought to employ in their relationship without failing. She claims that, for women, they tend to hold on to love for a truly long time before letting go, unlike the men. According to Anne, women will love a man even on the condition that there is no expectation of the man returning her love. Prudent love is clearly depicted by Wentworth when he writes his letter to Anne. Before writing the letter, he seems to have carefully listened to the conversation between her and his friend Captain Harville. During their conversation, he came to the realization that Anne was the woman for him in addition to that; he could not be deprived of one more Chan of living with her (SparkNotes, 78). When Anne read the letter, she knew that it was hard for her to keep hiding her feelings towards the Captain, and a result she agreed to marry him by accepting his engagement. Similarly, in Austen’s; other novel, Pride and Prejudice, Darcy’s letter to Elizabeth made her apprehend that he is worth to be with her and noble plans for her. Darcy also confessed to Elizabeth about how he felt towards her. This was later reaffirmed by Mrs. Gardiner, who told Elizabeth that she and Darcy would make an extremely beautiful couple. Mrs. Gardiner also made Elizabeth understand that all that he had done in his past was because of the great love he felt for her. Unknown to Anne, Wentworth was keenly following their discussion, and the more Anne engaged in conversation, the more the feelings he had for her rekindled. As a result, Wentworth wrote Anne a letter as he continues to listen to their conversation. In the letter, he confesses his true and constant love for her. Wentworth pours his heart out to the woman he loves, and she is pleasantly surprised that he feels the same way towards her. Anne is extremely happy about this and eventually they are engaged to marry (Weber, 140). The contents of the letter show the love that Wentworth feels for Anne. It is mature and serious love that has been suited to stand up the test of detachment, as well as time. The novel ends just like the novel Pride and Prejudice, where the heroine of the story eventually finds love and wealth, thus entering into another social class while those who did not wish her well remain behind. This novel is a story about love, the love that Anne and Wentworth wait upon for eight years, the love that the Musgrove’s’ daughters found the love shared between Mr. and Mrs. Musgrove, and the love that the Musgrove’s’ have for their children. Both passionate and prudent love is evident in the poem, depending on the characters that Austen uses. Similar to the story of Anne in Persuasion and Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice, the popular Mexican soap opera, Triumph of Love has a close congruence in its story line. It depicts the story of love between Max and Maria. Maria grew in an orphanage, but her dream is to become a model. She later gets a job, but her boss, Victoria; her biological mother treats her with contempt. She meets up with Max, who happens to be the bosses step son. They then fall deeply in love, but Victoria plots to separate the two by all means necessary. Through Victoria’s plot, max believes that he impregnated his Ex-girlfriend. On the other hand, Maria is pregnant with Max's baby, but she is willing to sacrifice her happiness and love in order for Max to fulfill Victoria wish of marrying his Ex who is of their own social class. Through prudent love, Maria was able to overcome all the pressure in her life and hold on to the sincere feelings that she had for Max. She has a strong feeling that, everything that is happening to her will come to pass. As the story continues, Maria meets with Alonso who is a renowned photographer, and he falls in love with her. He helps her Maria through out the pregnancy, but Maria cannot reciprocate his love because she is madly in love with Max. Through prudent love, Maria managed to maintain the feelings that she had for Max despite the good things that Alonso did to her in that period when Max was married to his Ex. Eventually, their love triumphs over all obstacles and they manage to have a happy ever after ending. This teaches that, in love, people have to be prudent. In as much as passion may get in the way, it is important to realize that a passionate love is not permanent. In conclusion, it is notable that from the two books; Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice, and the television program; Triumph of Love, love conquers all. More specifically, prudent love is of more importance in any relationship as passionate love is just for a moment. Experiences in life may cause one to make random relationship decisions that may change ones life for better of for worse. Feelings of passion should be thoroughly scrutinized so as to be sure whether one is in love. Sometimes people mistake love from physical or sexual connection. Prudent love guides people to have the ability of sound decision-making in a relationship and often considers the long-term effects of the decisions that have been made. Only prudent love can triumph over all the obstacles in life.
