It is evident that the recruitment of the graduates has become a complex and difficult task. The companies have realised the fact that the recruitment and the selection procedures need to ensure that graduates are ‘best fit’ in order to enable the organisation to stay robust in the ever changing economic climate. The graduate employers find it hard to fill up the vacancies in spite of receiving innumerable applicants because of the shortage of good quality graduates. It is now utmost important for the applicant to consider what constitute the good quality graduates. However, there has been a shift in the preferences and expectations of the employer when it comes to graduates and the skills that they suppose them to possess. The organisations prefer to have people with firm or industry specific knowledge (Scribd, n.d.). Preferred Job Area After completion of my graduation, I wish to work as a ‘Human Resource Officer’. The respective field has been chosen as I have always been interested in the Human Resource related activities. The task of the human resource officer is to provide advice and implement policies that relates to the effective use of the personnel within the organisation. The main aim of the human resource officer is to ensure that the organisation employs right balance of the staffs according to their knowledge and skills. They also need to check if the training and development opportunities are made available to the employees in order to enhance their performances. The human resource officer needs to have a clear understanding of what the objective of the employers business is and they must be able to make and implement the policies that helps to select, develop as well as retain the correct staff which is required to meet these objectives. There has been change in the character of the HR professionals. The nature of the work of the human resource profession varies according to the organisation. However, it is likely to include working in tandem with the departments, liaising with the wide range of people that is involved in the policy areas such as staff performance, their health and safety, negotiating with the staffs and their representatives on matters related to the pay and condition, administering the payroll and the maintenance of the employee record (Prospects, 2010). Various organisations offers HR Officers job in the UK. Few of them are United Response, Huntress Search Limited and Candidate Source Limited (Monster, 2010). United Response is a charity that works across England and Wales. It caters support to the people who have various disabilities (United Response, 2010). The recruitment process of the United Response is quite simple. The candidate needs to register online. The candidate will be required to answer few simple questions and then they can either qualify for an interview on the day of recruitment or on some other day (United Response, 2010). Huntress is one of the most creative, active and rapidly growing recruitment groups. It is a multi award wining company having 18 centres in the UK. It is soon going to expand its operation both internationally and domestically (Huntress Commercial, n.d.). The company requires that the candidate should have certain kind of generalist HR experience and must be able to deal with various kinds of HR issues (Monster, n.d.). Networx is another famous company based in the UK, Leicestershire. The company work together with the clients and the candidates and tries to deliver a qualitative professional service that not only focus upon the time and the cost efficiency, but also put stress upon the improvement of the entire recruitment process (Networx, n.d.). The candidate needs to be qualified to ‘A’ level standard (or equivalent) and will be holding and working towards a Graduate CIPD qualification. A person must have good communication skills both verbally and in writing. The candidate need to first forward his/her CV for this position. After this step, he will receive an email from Networx that would require the candidates to submit their details to Networx (TopJobs, n.d.). Self Analysis of Knowledge, Skills and Abilities First of all, the most necessary criteria pertaining to this job is the education. I have completed my Bachelors degree in Human Resources as my specialisation paper. This is definitely going to add value to my career. I think I am a good team player as well as a good communicator. I have the ability to plan things well and also consider myself as a good self motivator. I have good interpersonal and interviewing skills and have certain knowledge regarding the policies, procedures, legislations and collective agreement about the human resources. I also find myself suitable to handle all levels of the employees in the department and provide them valuable information and advice in relation to the problems (Human Resource Service, n.d.). I find myself as a good negotiator with excellent interpersonal and coaching skills. There are number of instances where I have practiced high level of confidentiality which according to me is the first priority in any HR jobs. Perception Regarding the Job and KSA I feel that my KSA matches the job requirement as I have opted for human resource management as a specialisation paper during my graduations and have also made certain projects on the related field. uman hu Requirement of Developing KSA However, I feel that in this cut-throat competitive era, I still possess certain drawbacks which should be overcome as soon as possible before I get into the corporate. In the course of time, I should learn to adapt myself in any kind of situations, since performing the duties of this kind of job, the employee will be occasionally exposed to the various working environment. In addition to this I need to shape certain knowledge on performance review methods and technique. Moreover, little bit of focus has to be given on the problem solving skills and stress management skills. I also need to groom myself in a way that will help me to get into the corporate world. By doing so, I will be competent enough to take up any kind of employment opportunities. Personal Development Plan After having identified my weaknesses, it is important to prepare personal development plan. Even though I feel that my strengths surpass my weaknesses, I am still greatly concerned regarding my shortcomings since this is going to hinder my further development process. This will tend to block my entry into the corporate world. I personally feel that I am not that good at problem solving skills and must try my best to be adaptable to any kind of situations. The major facts that relate to this situation are that I didn’t get enough time and resource to equip myself with the necessary skill, knowledge and abilities. I think case studies are the best way through which I can gain the problem solving skills. Therefore, I will dedicate 2 hours per day to solve the case studies. I will try to have an appraisal of the situation or the solution that I will be coming up with. Therefore, by doing this I would be able to focus more on the wrong decision taken by me and make amendments accordingly. After that I will be focusing on the decision making in order to take right decisions. I have also come to know that active listening can help to solve this kind of problems. More attention needs to be paid in this regard as well.
