?FUTURE OF HUMANITY The complete universe is God’s abode, of which Earth is a uniquely blessed corner. The almighty has blessed it with humanity and natural blessings. History is evident of the fact that man has continued to encounter God in places like Mountain tops, vast deserts, beside waterfalls and gentle flowing springs. They perceived strong winds, earthquakes and storms as the expression of divine power. But as the beneficiaries of the modern and upcoming technology and the victims of the industrial revolution, the twenty first century human being has alienated itself from the scale, rhythms and harmony of nature. (United States Conference of Catholic Bishop) As a result of the environmental crisis the entire human race is suffering today and the failure to act by the present generation will have an effect on the future generation as well. The poor and the powerless are that sections of the society who bears the most dreadful consequence of the current environmental carelessness. The land and neighborhood of these people are most polluted and host to the toxic dumps, the water they get are not safe to drink implying a health hazard for them. Trapped in the spiral of poverty the small farmers, the industrial workers, the lumberjacks, the watermen, the rubber tappers, bears most of the burden of the economic adjustments camouflaged in the form of environmental remedies taken up by the society. They undergo the worst consequence from the loss of fertility of soils, pollution of rivers, city streets and the deforestation and at the same time they are forced to overdo the soil, clear the forest or migrate to marginal lands due to the overcrowding and unequal distributions of land. Their labor to eke out a bare subsistence adds to the problem of environmental degradation. The diversity of life marks God’s glory. The divine beauty is being shared by every creature as the divine integrity cannot be represented by one being alone. So the human being should show respect and reverence for the Creator by preserving and protecting the natural environment and the endangered species. Human being should make an effort to be compatible with the local ecology by ensuring the just use of technology and by cautiously evaluating the technological innovations as they are being adopted. (United States Conference of Catholic Bishop; Hanks, 454) Change is the only constant thing in today’s world. In the age of globalization, the Internet is the phenomenon that is changing the lives of everyone today. Everything is moving in a breakneck speed now and its impact is not limited to the economic sphere but also in the social spheres of our life. It has brought in fear with itself as the school children are offered drugs at their playgrounds and they are growing up sexually at a great speed. The parents today are stressed and fighting day after day grind to earn a living, which will raise the family’s standard of living. It’s more of a rat race now where the ethics and values of the society are disappearing. In the present era the bonding and ties of family, locality and the country are under continuous pressure and threat. “The change is fast and fierce, replete with opportunities and dangers.” (Blair) But enduring this change humanity will flourish provided man can minimize the harmful effect of globalization and use it instead for the benefits of him. The emergence of internet has narrowed down the gaps between the countries implying an economic change which proves to be beneficial for the world economy. The internet has concised the world in one‘s bedroom and the exchange of information and knowledge has led to the emergence of a knowledge hub. The interaction and communication with the rest of the world has encouraged intermarriage which will definitely blur the racial and ethnic distinction resulting in fewer wars and who knows that can really stop the world from witnessing another world war. (Intermarriage ) In this era of globalization the world’s growing interdependence cannot be denied. Hence the problems arising out of it cannot be addressed by the traditional political mechanism and there arise the need of extending the traditional principle of common good from the nation-state to the world community. “The universal common good can serve as a foundation for a global environmental ethic”. (United States Conference of Catholic Bishop; United States Conference of Catholic Bishop; Bostron, 4) It is true that with the open economy system as a result of gobalization the exports from the other countries not only bring in goods but also their culture with it. It one way has a diminishing effect on the culture of the domestic economy but on the other hand it reduces the racial prejudices among the natives of the country and thus breaks the barrier of racism inculcating the idea of brotherhood and oneness. The growing interdependence will also result in growing responsibility among the nations which will ensure lesser incidents of war and the countries will be bound to help each other as no economy remains self sufficient. The dependency will ensure right global economic and political policies. (Connell, 570) The growing advances in technology will result in inventions which would ensure a better life for the humanity as a whole. Like the development of genetic engineering will let the parents screen and alter the traits of their children. This will definitely result in keeping away the genetic disease. Technology and research will enable man to develop cures for diseases like cancer, neurological and aging related diseases. Human beings will be able to increase their longevity through the advancement in the medical sciences which will lead in fading away beliefs on God. It cannot be debated whether that will have a positive or a negative effect on the world economy but this can be very well predicted that the religious war that emerges from differing faith will stop. The world would not have to face the incidents of Crusades which she has already witnessed. (Humanity’s future) Belief and trust in the future of the humanities is the very essence which will ensure the future of the entire human species with the proper inculcation of humanity in them. The emergence of common problems and common interests have led the world grow into a global village which in turn has incorporated the seed of co operation in the human being. From the pre- historic age of civilization till today when the world is facing the extreme result of modernization and transformation, the very essence of the existence of human being and other species is the outcome of co operation among them and the willingness to live in a community. Along with the co operation human beings also need to be judgmental regarding the consumption of resources and the growth in the world population. The future of the world lies in human hands so they have to ensure the right decision is taken. The proper maintenance of integrity of the landscapes, safeguarding the endangered species, preservation of remaining wilderness, ensuring feeding the hungry world will require human beings to take the assistance of the social co-operation, experimentation and invention. Human beings need to act for sustaining the ecological balance by maintaining the purity of the air and water, to prevent the loss of farmlands and to support bio-diversity in plant and animal life. Human being needs to understand the importance of keeping in balance between the healthy environment and the technology. In the recent era when nothing can be done without the aid of technology, the environment has to be preserved as well for the preservation of the earth and its creatures. Going by an optimistic view everybody would like to think that humanity will surely flourish in future. The correct amalgamation of technology with nature and human ethics will ensure the preservation of humanity as a species. In the age of modernization where the effect of technology is much talked about it is to be noted that technology is the one which will ensure the preservation of humanity. The influence of technology on humanity is very significant and it is also very important how the human races use the technology for the development of the world economy and society. References: 1.
