?Air Fantasy 2052: MEETING THE CHALLENGE OF SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS Introduction The year 2052 is the target year for Air Fantasy that will start operations in that year. Air Fantasy will be located in France, my home country. This paper will focus on the airline and global forecast for the next forty years concerning achieving sustainable business for Air Fantasy in the aviation industry. The Aviation Industry has made tremendous progress over the past decades, which have had a great impact on air travel. This makes it paramount to set a future agenda that will be anchored in a better educated, comfortable, more prosperous and a better-informed company – Air Fantasy. The aviation industry has reached an evolutionary crossroad and has to choose among a great storm of deepening crises due to economic meltdown, jet fuel and pollution to the environment that is progressive and expanding prospects of unprecedented opportunities (Wankel and Stoner, 2009, p. 23). At Air Fantasy, we plan to purchase the latest and new Airbus A330s, which are more fuel-efficient since they consume very low amounts of fuel. This will also reduce carbon emissions. Air Fantasy will also buy commercial and car fleets for its ground services, which will be more fuel efficient to enable it become a leader in sustainable aviation. Viewed from the past perspective, current aviation crises portend a more uncertain future. When viewed as a transformative opportunity to break from the outdated values, institutions and ideas, the aviation crises present essential conditions that lead to a rapid shift to sophisticated, prosperous and sustainable days ahead for the aviation industry and in particular, Air Fantasy. The recent break down of collective actions that deal with international financial instability; oil prices and climate change seem to raise a pessimistic view of the future. This failure has been because of a piecemeal and disjointed approach to the understanding and getting solutions to the issues affecting the aviation industry worldwide (Wankel and Stoner, 2009, p. 29). Air Fantasy will also join aviation sustainable aviation lobby groups such as The Sustainable Aviation, The Sustainable Aviation Fuels Users Group and the Aviation Global Deal. This will enable the airline join efforts for a worthy cause with other players in the aviation industry. The genesis of the climate change crises that are being witnessed across the globe rests on ancient theoretical values, concepts and institutions. The solution is in the generation of a new body of knowledge that is designed for the radically different challenges of the 21st century, commitment to values that are progressive which include corporate governance and an economic solution worldwide in order to exploit the well-being and welfare of all, and enterprise of more effective aviation companies (Roberts, 1995, p. 7). This will create employment opportunities for the people of France in general. Air Fantasy will use bio-fuels to achieve its sustainable goals. Bio-fuels are lesser pollutants and the CO2 emissions are very low compared to other fuels. This will evidently reduce the green house gas emissions thus making the aviation industry a cleaner, more profitable industry. Bio-fuels will also reduce Air Fantasy’s reliance on oil, which is vulnerable to high global oil prices. This will make Air Fantasy less susceptible to fuel price volatility. There is a tremendous understanding and consent pertaining to the desired ideal aviation industry. This ensures an interconnected industry, which includes all the stakeholders. Consultations among all the players enables the industry to overcome its current challenges which include the Euro crisis and an economic meltdown, an aviation industry which manages the numerous resources opportunities are available in the country as a centre for flight interconnections and also an economic hub for Europe. This enables an equitable industry, which operates sustainably and is in a better today to overcome the two major challenges and move forward (Roberts, 2004, p .5) Air Fantasy will also engage itself in carbon trading whereby it will ensure to reduce carbon emissions for credit rating. This will boost the airline’s prospects and worldwide rating. Six aviation goals are critically essential for the appropriate transition towards an equitable, sustainable and a much profitable industry. These include the change of airline company’s values and goals, which are essential for an equitable and sustainable aviation industry that will be fully reflected in all avionic future decisions. Additionally, the other goal is to have a more equitable distribution of income both between countries and within national borders. This will ensure that the economic meltdown and the Euro Crisis are resolved. This will enable Air Fantasy and the aviation industry in France to operate sustainably. The third goal is the goal of offering job opportunities to the people of France. This ensures that majority of the citizens have an income to lead a decent life. This will ensure that the countries economy grows substantially. Generation of jobs has become a pinnacle priority for all aviation investments while costs for employment are considered in decision-making (Blewitt, 2008, p. 7). The fourth goal would be where the aviation industry reflects the value creation of economic capital whereby airline companies operate in a transparent and fair manner and services and goods are delivered for a sustainable aviation industry. This will spur competition among the airline companies; this will ideally uplift the competitive edge of Air Fantasy. The fifth goal is where the ecology is equated as a requisite constraint for every form of human activity and properly managed in a manner, which reflects its economic and biophysical value. The world should never be in an overshoot. Finally, the sixth goal is to have appropriate governance systems at within the aviation industry that will effectively deal with the transition of the industry into a sustainable and equitable aviation industry (Lomborg, 2002, p 19). The prospects of 2052 for Air Fantasy and the aviation industry as a whole shows that over the next 40 years, the number of airline travelers will be more than double the current figures. This essentially means that there will be a corresponding increase in demand airline travel. Therefore, the aviation industry will have to grow in order to meet this huge demand. Air Fantasy has the opportunity to tap into this numbers and take advantage of the market. The potential of these changes propelling the number of airlines. This will largely be out of customer numbers travelling on air and the airline strategies that will have to be implemented to appropriately, handle this challenging situation. This can be done by redefining the values that effectively guide the airlines development, creating appropriate governance institutions in the aviation and airline companies. This will be achievable if Air Fantasy has the capital, sufficient workers, knowledge of financial markets in order to deliver services and goods needed for a sustainable aviation industry (Maclean, Wilson and Chinien, 2009, p. 23). Sustainability strategies in terms of innovation, value creation, competitive advantage and business feasibility are only achievable under five key pillars in order to surmount the challenges ahead in the aviation industry that will directly affect Air Fantasy. These are resources and environment, globalization, world development, social transformation, peace and security. Resources and environment cluster relates to peak oil and climate change. Rapid and radical social and economic transformations are needed to avert runaway ecological breakdown and climate change. Globalization relates to interdependence, demographic change, distribution of wealth and income, finance, trade and employment. Present imbalances and inequalities of globalization risks a world breakdown of financial systems and the world economy (Roberts, 1995, p. 26). World development relates to sustainable development, environmental stress, exclusion, and inequity in a wealthy world. Social transformation relates to social change, ethics and values, culture, airline passenger behavior and identity. This must change in order for the aviation industry to be sustainable (Wankel and Stoner, 2009, p. 32). In conclusion, the aviation industry and Air Fantasy in 2052 will be a much more resilient and viable airline company to start operations. The aviation industry has numerous opportunities, tools, technology, science, and the ability to overcome the aviation crises systematically and to move into an advanced aviation industry. Air Fantasy’s operations will be sustainable by focusing on three key areas of its operations. These are community investment, purchasing and carbon waste. Other ways that Air Fantasy will sustainable is by checking on the weight that the planes will be carrying. This ensures that fuel consumption is reduced at the same time maximizing fuel efficiency.
