It is sad to learn how thousands of hardworking rural farmers were forced to relocate to cities. Friedman brings to light the geopolitical effects of climate change and drought and how it can bring a nation to its knees. It is a fact that the rest of the world is not immune to impacts arising from a lack of water and food.

It is stunning to follow Ford’s story as he visits Indonesia to investigate the impacts of deforestation. It is sad to learn how people are cutting down trees as they seek products such as paper and palm oil. The reduction of the number of trees leads to increased carbon emissions. Indonesia is the leading offender of deforestation, and its quest for palm oil sees its people burn forests. The people, however, resist complying with policies that bar the practice. One wonders whether they are aware of the implications of their actions for future generations. The last story follows Don Cheadle, who reports the drought condition in the United States. With the help of Katharine Hayhoe, a devoted evangelical Christian, and climate scientist, he mingles with jobless Texans. The Texans lost their jobs after a drought eviscerated their cattle, and the surrounding meatpacking plants were closed. I describe it as a sorry state because people are suffering for mistakes that are not theirs.

The movie is very informative and lessons drawn from the film can help people stop reckless behaviors. If cutting down trees will make man lack food and water, why then continue indulging in the filthy practice? It serves as an alarm for people to engage in actions that will lead to positive climate change. Read More
