Tourism is defined as the practice of people traveling to destinations other than their usual homes for different purposes. These purposes include leisure, adventure, or business. Britain produces the third-largest number of tourists in the world after Germany and the United States but only receives the 7th largest number of tourists (Tourism Alliance, 2011). Moreover, there is more tourist expenditure going from Britain to other countries than the amount spent by British tourists within Britain itself.

What this shows is that there must be a concerted effort by British Tour authorities to attract as much of this money into Britain as possible so as to boost the local economy further. It is therefore quite important for the authorities to understand the dynamics that determine this decision-making process. Any tour promoting organization must take into consideration these factors if they intend to improve their performance (Wilkerson, 2003, 16). However, these tourism trends are not the way they are for lack of trying in Britain.

It is a fact the largest number of tourists that come to Britain are domestic tourists; they make up some 60% of the total received. The British government and tour operators have collectively invested some € 91 billion in the tourism sector alone. This investment is in the form of hotels, restaurants, recreational centers, public parks, and tours and travel vehicles. There are also employees who earn their living directly and indirectly from the tourism sector (Barrow, 2010). More money is also spent on tour promotions every year using the mass media including the internet.

These efforts help a great deal in improving returns from tourism, though as we shall see, more still needs to be done.Being part of the larger London, the Borough of Ealing is part of one of the most popular destinations for tourists worldwide. London Ranks up there with Paris, New York, and Berlin as among the most popular destinations for tourists.
