DEVELOPING PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE Introduction This essay analyzes the benefits of developing professional practice. I would demonstrate how the unit has met my personal training requirements and professional values. Every unit in a course is meant to better student. Developing professional practice in not exceptional, it has enhanced professionalism, knowledge development and personal learning and development in regard to occupation etiquettes and mannerism (Blandford and Knowles, 2009). The benefits are not only limited to work environment but to life experience and endeavors. Effective professional practice makes the difference between competency and incompetency. Through out the unit, I have leant the effect of acquiring best practice since during internships I would find communication and interaction with fellow staffs easy and cordial. This would have not been so if I had not gone through the unit. Effective professional practice is intense to permit students and others to develop new skills and knowledge essential in their professional practice. Professional skills The unit has equipped me with numerous skills regarding professionalism. Time management is one of skills learnt; time is an essential part of individual and its management practice distinguishes the rich and poor. I need to be wealthy in knowledge and material thus time management is an essential skill that the unit has endowed. Currently and in future time management help and will help me deliver my duties promptly and become a role model to others. Communication and interpersonal skills are professional knowledge and skills acquired. Communication is essential and it gives a significant impact if done professionally (Morrison, 1993). The communication skills varies from the body language, intonation and words used. The best mode of communication attraction is the first impression; within seconds of interaction people form their opinion and if my dressing is not presentable my wording and intonation would not impress them. The formal and informal communication category assists in interaction with other people such as fellow staffs, patients or clients and management. This skill that assists me to treat people as individuals thus ensuring interpersonal rapport is maintained. The skills can assist me in the future to attract and retain clients when I start my own business and also interact with employees professionally. Further training and practice of the skills can assist to add more value to what I have learnt. Team work is another professional skill learnt. Any profession requires teamwork spirit to make work easy and also to encourage different experts pull together in achieving organization objectives. These skills help me appreciate individuals with their capacity and contribution. The future is brighter with this kind of skills put into practice I can manage bigger human resource capacity. It is essential to be a team player to make effective manager or a leader in an organization. With practice and involving my role models, I can add value to skills acquired and be better. Behavioral characteristics of the successful professional skills and presentation skills are additional professional knowledge acquired in this unit. Professional skills are pillars for my professional growth and development (Karten, 2010). Practice and training are additional activities to assist in perfecting the skills acquired and remain relevant. Knowledge development Knowledge gathered from this unit is that attitude, hard work, good communication, presentation, dedication and devotion are professionalism values that I have to keep throughout my career development. Maintaining ethics is an essential matter in profession development since it builds reputation and assist one earns trust of others (Eraut, 2003). I have learnt trust is essential in financial matters and going through the unit this cannot be over emphasized. Unethical professional practice leads to reputation damages, fines and convictions. The knowledge assist in ensuring this is avoided at all cost, and I embrace the desirable professional practices. Reflection is a technique of assessing best practice and testing accessible norms while simultaneously, reflecting on one’s private values and supposition in our individual and professional existence (Burge, 2013). The unit has equipped me with reflection understanding thus facilitating better understanding of the professional. At the foundation of the reflective procedure is the gathering of fresh understanding and approval, reframing troubles and the improvement of knowledge generation capacities. Reflective practice learnt assist in making critical judgment, which is essential for professional practice. The critical thinking ability is essential since it facilitate reflective and professional development (Taylor, 2006). This is crucial for my future advances in my career since I can make sound critical thinking that would save a firm from financial losses or create opportunities where none seems to exist. Professional development is known as the systematic continuation, enhancement and expansion of knowledge and the growth of personal capabilities required for the edification of professional and technical tasks all through the practitioner's working years (Guskey, 2003). The unit has given me necessary knowledge pertaining the profession and guidance on how to remain relevant and knowledgeable. The present environment of accountability and public auditing in the finance and accountant professions requires a high altitude of accountability by accountants and financial professionals in regards to understanding, upgrading and realistically applying their skilled knowledge. The unit has empowered me with these knowledge requirements and professional training in handling clients and being accountable. The knowledge of accountability is critical since it guide one to be mindful of their actions and treat others well. To achieve these finance and accountant knowledge, professionals require acknowledging the broad diversity of sources from which their acquaintance is created: they require a clear functional knowledge of practice epistemology, which examines the kind of knowledge and knowledge creation which involves practice (Gould, 2002). The requirement from governments, community, and managers is for evidence-based activity with the anticipation that financial professionals completely comprehend the knowledge which underpins their occupation, therefore, rationalizes their practice. Knowing what to do as pertain ones profession is good; however, having knowledge of developing professional practice is even better. Many are knowledgeable and the difference from the ones who achieve their dreams and goals is effective professional practice. Continuing professional development maintains people current with knowledge and skills to be successful in their career. To make sure my knowledge remains relevant, the unit has taught us means of continuing knowledge development even after the college. It is essential to ensure that knowledge development is an integral part of ones development (Bubb and Earley, 2007). The unit has helped me to embrace practices that ensure professional development is a continual practice that needs never-ending knowledge acquisition. The finance and accounting professional is demanding and highly dynamic due to economical changes. The unit has highlighted demands for professionalism and has equipped me with the knowledge demands of this profession development. The knowledge leant on how to manage time, communicate with people properly, how to behave professionally are essential now and future development. Having the knowledge and practice and an earlier stage prepares me to be a better manager in the future. Finance and account are lifestyle skills since they are applicable in every day life; thus it’s a continuous process. Personal learning and development Personal learning and development has been made practical through reflective and learning knowledge. The values of reflective practice have taught me the professional way of treating others and the way others must treat me professionally. Adherence to norms and codes of practice or behavior where appropriate to my profession and the standards and values that strengthen my work setting involving the rights of others and my rights (Kise and Russell, 2010). Personal learning from the unit involves: Treating and to be treated as an individual Equal treatment and no discrimination Respecting and to be respected Protected from damages and liabilities Privacy consideration and dignified treatment. The above are some of the learning lessons acquired from the unit and assist my personal development in the profession. The reflective practice helps me realize the professional practices protect me and assist me in doing my work better (Kise and Russell, 2010). I have learnt to develop professional learning culture since it is a continuing practice of reflecting on, and learning from, an individual and professional standpoint, including comprehensions, concepts and experiences. Personal development preparation is a recognized documentation of my areas of potency, areas for improvement, projected learning chances and timeframes for accomplishment, created in partnership with a mentor or supervisor. Personal development requires support; the support may comprise informal and formal supervision, coaching, tutor support, peer support, assessor support. This is essential for advancement of the profession since one lean new practices of progression. I have acquired the necessary personal skills to assist in the development of my personal professional path. This knowledge would assist in the future advancement through necessary support and practices. Conclusion In conclusion, the unit has empowered me to progress my professional in a critical and inclusive way. Professional skills acquired enable me to handle professional issues in a practical and acceptable manner. The knowledge development gives me a directive of how to remain knowledgeable and relevant within the profession.
