Choice of Accounting as a Career - Essay Example

This essay declares that the role of accountants in the industries have changed significantly but the previous researches reveal that information about the same have not reached young career aspirants whereby the old perceptions about accounting profession as a non-innovative, non-technical and boring profession still prevails. These researches further add that while lucrative pay packets & job security have led to more aspirants choosing accounting majors, the gap in communication about the duties & responsibilities about accounting profession may lead to major surprises by students in the industry thus resulting in risks of drop outs & change of profession.

This paper makes a conclusion that tThe modern industry requires large number of good quality accountants and the supply is still alarmingly inadequate. In this context, a short survey has been carried out to assess the level of awareness about accounting profession among young career aspirants and the factors that motivate them to choose accounting as their career. It was observed that unlike the outcome of some researches carried out in the early years of this millennium, the awareness about accounting profession among students is very high given that at very early stage of their education they are very clear about choosing accounting as their profession and also about the professional qualification that they aspire to achieve to nurture their respective careers in accounting.
