Accounting ratio analysis for the enhancement of management of decisions: A British Petroleum case study. Executive Summary An analysis of financial principles relating to accounting and cash ratios will be examined using a combination of modern and historical sources for the purpose of literature meta-analysis.
The fundamental principles of accounting that will be discussed for managerial purposes include liquidity, the pursuit of an optimal ratio between cash and assets. In addition, the cash conversion cycle will be described at length; with explanations for what sort of turnover can be expected for the operation in question. Details concerning organizational functionality will be discussed as well; with an explanation concerning potential pitfalls incurred through management and accounting failures. Data indicates that multinational corporations operating on this scale must be cognizant of political challenges; and BP has strategies in place to optimize the efficiency of normal operations through sound accounting practices. Additional data will be provided concerning cash ratios for BP, and what insights this permits concerning the viability of the company, and its prospects for future growth. Finally, limitations in the methodology as well as ideas for further research will be included consistent with the data presented herein. The literature review provides an analysis describing benchmarks for a hypothetical company to sustain and maintain a similar dimension of success as this giant of the oil industry.
