New Jersey is a small northeastern state with some 209 kilometers of Atlantic coastline. New Jersey has 21 counties. Many of New Jersey counties are considered part of New York City and metropolitan area. Gov. Philip Carteret organized New Jersey as an English colony. Garden State is the nickname of New Jersey. Trenton is the capital of New Jersey, and Newark City is the largest city in New Jersey. Chris Christie is Governor of New Jersey, and Kim Guadagno the secretary of the state. The abbreviation of New Jersey is N.J. The Land area of New Jersey is 22608 square kilometer. The population of New Jersey in 2010 is 8,791,894. 14.7% people in New Jersey are 65 or over 65-year-old (U.S. Census Bureau, 2015). The unemployment rate in New Jersey was 6.5% by April 2015 (Department of Labor and Workforce Development, 2015). In New Jersey, the female population is more than the male population. 71.7% are over 21 years old. 68.6% white people lives in New Jersey, and 19.4% black people are part of New Jersey. The major source of revenue collection in New Jersey are five agricultural products that include greenhouse and nursery products, horses/mules, blueberries, dairy products, and chicken eggs. Virginia The State of Virginia locates on the eastern coast of the USA. West Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Kentucky states border the State of Virginia. Virginia has 95 counties along with 38 independent cities that are considered county-equivalents for census purposes. Old Dominion is the nickname of Virginia. Richmond is the capital of Virginia. The Abbreviation of Virginia is VA. The largest city in Virginia is Virginia Beach. Total land area of Virginia is 110,785.67-square kilometers. The population of Virginia was 8,001,024 in 2010. 49.1% are males, and 50.9 % females are residents of Virginia. 13.8% peoples of Virginia are 65 years or over 65 years old (U.S. Census Bureau, 2015). The major rivers in this state include Delaware River, Hudson River, and borders the Atlantic Ocean. The highest point in New Jersey is 1,803 feet (550 m) above sea level. The state has major industries in farming that produce peaches, tomatoes, and potatoes. Other industries relate to pharmaceuticals, chemicals, petroleum base products, tourism, and insurance. Virginia The State Capital of Virginia is Richmond. The States abbreviation is VA. Virginia is the 35th largest state in the USA covering an area of 42,769 square miles. The largest City in Virginia is Virginia Beach. Virginians are residents of Virginia. The state has major industries in farming that produce ham, tobacco, peanuts, sweet potatoes, and corn poultry. Other industries in Virginia include US Navy warships, coal mining, lumber, tourism, and government staff. The major lakes and water bodies in Virginia include the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, Gath right Dam (Lake Moomba), and Philpot Lake. The major rivers in Virginia include Potomac River, Rappahannock River, Shenandoah River, and James River. The highest point in Virginia is at Mt. Rogers 5,729 feet (1,746 m) above sea level. North Carolina, Maryland, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia states borders the state of Virginia. The contiguous water bodies in this state include Chesapeake Bay & Atlantic Ocean. Population:  New Jersey urban 94.7 percent of New Jersey population (8,324,126) resides in urban areas whereas its rural population is 467, 768. New Jersey population grew by a modest amount from 2000 to 2014 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2014). Virginia urban The Virginia urban population is around 3,689,547 whereas its rural population is 3,940,341 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2014). The overall growth rate was 9.7 percent for the same period. There are 486 areas and 3,087 urban clusters nationwide (U.S. Census Bureau, 2014). Age and Sex: The male to female ratio varies significantly between states, according to U.S. Census Bureau data for the year 2010. Below is a list of the sex ratio for both states. New Jersey ratio: Female: (51.3%), Male: (48.7%); 18 & over: 76.5; 65 and median age: 39 (U.S. Department of Commerce, 2014). Virginia ratio: Female: (50.9%). Male: (49.1%), 18 & over: 76.8; 65 median age: 37.5 (U.S. Department of Commerce, 2014). Energy Consumed: New Jersey the largest coal array in the United States residents and businesses used 88,602,205 Megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity in 2002, of which 61,569,387 MWh were generated from coal and the rest from nuclear projects (U.S Department of Energy, 2015). Virginia has adopted a Renewable Portfolio Standard requiring that more than 20% of net electricity sales come from renewable energy resources. The regional transmission in New Jersey serves about 51 million people and dispatches 164,900 MW of generating capacity over 56,250 miles of transmission lines (State of New Jersey, 2015). Poverty: The number of people living in poverty in New Jersey dropped from 11.4 percent to 11.1 percent between 2013 and 2014 although about one million people live in poverty in New Jersey today (Astudilo, 2015) while in Virginia the poverty rate dropped slightly between 2003, from 13.0 percent to 15.1 percent (Gabe, 2015). President Obama also won in Virginia where he garnered 51.16% of the vote to Mitt Romneys 47.28%, a 3.88% margin of victory (U.S Government, 2012). Comparison of two states: Population: New Jersey is just 70.6 miles away from New York. The total population of New Jersey in 2010 was 8.79 million (Salant, 2014). 0.8% of New Jersey population decreased due to migration in 2011(U.S. Department of Commerce, 2015). Virginia population in 2010 was 7.84 million. In 2011, there was an approximate 0.2% increase in population due to migration (U.S. Department of Commerce, 2015). Age and Sex: Women in Virginia are slightly more than men where 50.9% women are part of the Virginia and 49.1% men are part of Virginia State (U.S. Department of Commerce, 2015). There are 1.8% more females than men in Virginia. 12.63% population of Virginia is 65 or 65 years old. 34.57% population is between 20-44 years (U.S. Department of Commerce, 2015). 26.98% people of Virginia population are between 44-64 years and only 12.98% people are 65 or over 65 years old. The Median age of Virginia is 37.5 years (U.S. Department of Commerce, 2014). Women out-populate men in New Jersey by 2.6%. 48.7% are male in New Jersey and 51.3% are male in New Jersey.1.1. The New Jersey Plan normalize trade, defense of state self-government, the percentage of taxes, and national judges to support or prohibit governmental acts, enforce laws, and interpret laws.
