Work Experience in India - Essay Example

Of all the experiences that this gave me, there is one in particular that will forever stand out in my mind.

 Additionally, I was personally responsible for handling a high number of patients daily.  During my tenure at Sri Guri Ram Das hospital, the most common injury types dealt with on a day-to-day basis were victims of trauma and a host of roadside accidents.  As India has one of the highest traffic fatalities rates in the world coupled with some of the most dangerous roads in existence, this comes as no surprise.  Various types of abrasions, bone fractures, concussions, and internal injuries accounted for almost all of the entries into the hospital during this time.  Although other types of injuries were treated as well, this experience helped me to gain expertise with the speed and level of trauma injuries that a doctor should be familiar with. 

It was not unusual to deal with sprains, fractures, head trauma, and abrasions multiple times daily.  However, unlike the other experiences detailed in this brief overview, the time I spent in the Emergency Room at Sri Guru Ram Das provided me with the most expansive types of patients.  Anyone who has worked in an Emergency Trauma Unit will be quick to agree that the range, scope, demographic, and age groups affected by trauma are perhaps the fastest of any type of medical practice.  Whereas heart disease, repository problems, and even to some extent diabetes can be understood to affect certain groups more so than others, the individuals I dealt with daily while working in the Sri Guri Ram Das Emergency Room exhibited the widest cross-section of the population.  As such, noting the symptoms and administering treatment for internal bleeding, recognizing the symptoms and administering treatment for the telltale signs of concussion, recognizing the symptoms, and administering treatment for every imaginable type of sprain and fracture became a daily necessity for me during this time.

Trauma is no respecter of persons and as such, it was necessary to know and understand the differences associated with h treatment of an elderly automobile accident victim as compared to a 14-year-old accident victim.  The unique dynamic associated with the different needs of the patients I dealt with was perhaps one of the most important skills I learned during this time.  As such, my experience with treating a variety of wounds and first aid emergencies daily is immense.  Furthermore, the rapid speed of incoming patients coupled with their pressing needs helped me to become more adept in recognizing treatment and patterns of trauma victims.  As with all of the hospitals I worked in, technological privation was a recurring theme.  As such, I was forced to rely on my clinical and training expertise to define, diagnose, and work to treat a host of symptoms associated with trauma that I saw daily.
