In the article by Pastan and Bailey, there is a very comprehensive review of the problem of ESRD, with a detailed analysis of PD and HD, their indications, and contraindications. They talk about the concentration of dialysate fluids, the changing trends of the duration of dialysis, and the recommendations, which have been updated over time. Finally, a review of the complications and costs of the techniques has been mentioned. This is an excellent article to understand dialysis.

Dimkovic and Oreopoulos have done a thorough literature review of chronic peritoneal dialysis in the elderly. They discuss various issues related to morbidity and complications, important issues like quality of life, hospitalization, and survival data, and organizational issues, that mention caretaker issues, psychological issues, and issues related to nursing homes

In the study by Collins et. A prospective analytical, observational, qualitative, and quantitative analysis was carried out on patients enrolled in Medicare, who were more than 67 years of age, and who entered into the ESRD program. This is a purely observational study, and thus in the absence of intervention, leads to a reduction in the significance of the analysis. The authors have been systematic, with their approach, with clear goals and methodology of observation and follow-up. They noted that the results with PD were much inferior in relation to kidney function tests in the PD group, except that in the 1st year of diabetics, where they were marginally better. Read More
