Effects of Obesity - Essay Example

Well, in health matters, doctors believe obesity is the main cause of type 2 diabetes commonly developed by adults, although today actually occurs in children. Obesity leads to diabetes because it can cause resistance to insulin, the hormone responsible for regulating blood sugar in our bodies. This happens since when obesity-related causes resist insulin; the resisted blood sugar becomes elevated resulting in type 2 diabetes. Nevertheless, doctors maintain that even moderate obesity can dramatically raise the risk of developing diabetes.Obesity means more body weight. This implies that the body now has additional fat tissues, which requires more oxygen and nutrients in order to survive hence requiring more blood vessels to circulate more blood to those additional fatty tissues. As a result, the heart has more workload as it must pump more blood via the added blood vessels to rest of the body. Increased blood circulation results to more blood pressure on artery walls. In return, high pressure on artery walls raises blood pressure. Thus, obesity can increase the rate of heart work and decrease the ability of the body to transport blood through blood vessels. Overweight people face psychosocial effects like social rejection. Some cultures including that of UK, associate obese people with either laziness or weak-will and blamed for their physical condition. In addition, people suffering from obesity encounter more disadvantages since, in this culture, attractiveness is to be overly thin and not the vice versa....
It is due to their condition that the community despise these people hence this progresses to biasness, discrimination and eventually torment. Obesity changes the physical appearance of a person through increased body weight. This tampers with someone’s body image whereby in the UK culture, the outside self-matters in relation to attractiveness. For instance, in this culture, analysts report that children with obesity suffer more behavioral problems compared to those who so not suffer from obesity. Obesity also causes distractive thinking. Clinically, doctors link women with depression, withdrawal, and above all suicide. This occurs due to discrimination and prejudice suffered by obese people especially in times of job search, at school, and in social institutions (Bray & Bouchard, 2004). How to Fight Obesity Since obesity is clocking epidemic proportion all around the globe, of even greater concern is the rate in which it is accelerating. Therefore, the rise has consequently raised concern to put in place measures and recommendations to curb and eradicate the prevalence of obesity. Doctors recommend that obese people should practice controlled diets, which is a remedy for weight loss. Exercising controlled diet prevents over consumption of foods that can lead to additional fats in bodies. This helps keep fat levels at constant proportion and maintains a balanced fat factor in body metabolism. Medical practitioners suggest that communities should take obese people for surgical procedures like liposuction that removes fat cells and eat low fat foods such as fish, pork, and chicken (Pitombo, 2008) Doctors suggest that, people suffering from obesity should exercise frequently.
