Nursing Home Activities Word Count: 250 page What would be beneficial to the patients would be to start with an activity that anyone coulddo--such as calisthenics. This would be ideal. 2. The hours that normally work the best for such activities would be either right after breakfast or right before lunch. These times would be ideal. 3. The activities should have some repetitiveness (i.e., one activity or two activities should be the same every day) after beginning the exercise activities with a deep breath. 4. Dog or cat therapy might be an option, especially for patients whose mobility is not good.

The animals can then come to the patient. 5. Safety is important while doing any sorts of arts or crafts, activity, therapy, or exercise. How much is too much really depends on the skill and ability of the patient. Focus on what the patient can do, not what the patient cant do. 6. Where activities take place will usually be in an open room that is large and inviting. Usually, most nursing homes have a socializing area, and this would be a most useful place to have the activities take place. 7. The needs and mobility of every patient are different so the activity coordinator is responsible for including all ability levels in the activities. 8. The social needs of the patient are important.

Perhaps the patient might have dementia and be combative. Thus, helping the patient to be aware of ones surroundings is key. 9. The intellectual level of every patient is going to be different, but it is important to meet that patient at the level at which the patient is at, if that makes sense. 10. What will not work and why has to be determined by the person who is coordinating all the activities. Being able to do this effectively will only come with time and experience.
