Q1 Blood capillaries and lymphatic capillaries are similar in a number of ways, but also have substantial differences. Capillaries in cases blood and lymphatic vessels are the smallest links between arteries and veins. While lymph capillaries have blind ends in contrast to blood capillaries that are continuous, which allows them to work in a closed environment as a closed circulation unit (Oliver, 2004)? This allows the capillaries to resume connectivity to arteries and veins in for continuous blood flow.

In addition, lymph capillaries are made up of a single layer of overlapping endothelial cells with loose junctions, which makes lymphatic capillaries more permeable as compared to blood capillaries. For this reason, lymphatic capillaries assist in the immune system while the lower permeability of blood capillaries helps maintain blood pressure during circulation. In addition, nodes interrupt lymph capillaries while blood capillaries are not. This allows for continuous blood flow while filtration occurs in the lymphatic system (Zuther, 2011).

Q2The central nervous controls the intake of oxygen and expulsion of carbon dioxide from the body while regulating respiration. This is through initiating breathing and maintaining it in order to remove harmful carbon dioxide produced by metabolic functions. This process occurs through sensitivity of chemoreceptors that detect chemical substances in the body and relay the information to the respiratory control center. The other system that controls the rate of respiration is the acidity tracking system in the body.

This tracks the concentration of carbon dioxide in the blood leading to a rise in acidity causing an increase in respiration that retains pH balance (Hendrickson, 2011). Defense mechanisms also regulate respiratory levels through epinephrine and its effects. This is concerning preparing the body for fight or flight where the heart rate increases and decreases respectively (Hendrickson, 2011). ReferencesZuther, J. (2011).
