Diet is defined as a way a person may regulate their consumption of food with an objective of decreasing, increasing or maintaining their body weight. Jaminet & Jaminet are of the assumption that dieting is normally perceived as a way of minimizing the extent of food consumption with the objective of weight loss (36). However, this is not accurate as dieting may also involve specific time consideration when having meals. From this argument, Willet develops the definition that dieting is a mode of regulating our meal intake in regards to quality, time and type of meal with an objective of managing our weight improving out health (11). There is always a common misconception that dieting is only important in instances where a person wants to lose weight. The perception is based on that; over-weight people suffer from obesity which is considered unhealthy. In addition, dieting is mostly considered by over-weight people or people with obesity. However, Spencer & Mosley assert that unhealthy dieting is of the same effect to obese people as it has on thin people (56). Moreover, thin people are likely to suffer from effects of unhealthy dieting that obese people. Willet points out that thin people require effective dieting more that fat people due to the consideration that their metabolism rate is significantly affected (44). Thesis The relationship between human health and dieting is significant. Regardless of the weight factor, a person should be able to exercise good dieting. There are numerous merits of good dieting and many demerits of bad dieting not influenced by the weight factor. Consequently, a healthy diet is a medical strategy that improves the general health of a person. Additionally, following a healthy diet is important for both fat and slim people. It depends on the kind of food, and the best time for meals. Literature review What is good dieting? Jaminet & Jaminet assert that good dieting is consumption of meals that rhymes with our body weight and requirement (17). The authors further point out that a healthy diet should be created in regards to time (Jaminet & Jaminet 17). Most importantly, food selection determines the appropriateness of a healthy diet. The same argument is supported by Willet, who point out that a healthy diet should comprise of a food selection and time for food consumption (34). Depending on the health demand of a person, they should be provided with a specific diet. For instance, a slim person may be required to increase their body mass thus increasing their food consumption level. On the other hand, a fat person may be required to cut down on their food consumption. The type of food may also be determined by the body mass of a person. In overweight people, their diet should not include meal with low fat content. In addition, consumption of vegetables is advised. For slim people, they are required to consume foods that have a high content in fats and proteins (Spencer & Mosley 56). Good dieting is determined by the time of meal consumption. Powell points out that consumption of meals should be done when metabolism rates are high (525). The author further points out that this allows for better digestion and absorption (Powell 525). Consequently, food consumption should not be done in late night hours. In addition, at night a person is advised to consume light meals. Heavy meals can be appropriately consumed during the day when body metabolism and activity is at the highest rate. From the information provided, one may point out that an appropriate diet is complete with proper food selection and time consideration. In addition, good dieting should be prescribed and advised by professionals to allow for effectiveness and discipline. The importance of dieting in both fat and slim people One major important of dieting is that it improves a person’s health. Willet asserts the consumption of meals is the greatest determinant of good health (28). This is based on that the human body is developed through products obtained from food. Every type of food provides a certain type and level of nutrient to the human body. For this reason, the need to have a balanced diet is developed. This refers to the need to have a balance of all required nutrients to the human body. Regardless of the body size of a person, a balanced diet is of massive importance. In an argument by Johnson, people with good dieting have a less prevalence in suffering from general health complications (72). The author further points out that the same trend is emulated who have prescribed diets from professionals (Johnson 72). In people with a large body mass, dieting is preferred to any other form of weight loss. This is based on that the greatest influence of an increase in body mass is food consumption. From a medical point of view, Aphramor & Bacon assert that the increase in body mass may have negative long and short term effects (112). Firstly, the authors point out over 50% of heart related diseases are caused by massive body mass (Aphramor & Bacon 112). Apart from exercising, dieting provides the only option for weight reduction. In slim people, dieting provides an effective way the balance between the body needs and appropriate body size. Spencer & Mosley assert that slim people require maintaining a healthy body in that they require sufficient body nutrients (102). Through dieting, a slim person can increase their body weight to an appropriate level that may sustain body activities. In a study by Willet, they assert that people diagnosed with type II diabetes live longer that thinner people of the same age (61). This justifies the argument that dieting is of equal importance to fat people as it is on thinner people. The effects of lack of good dieting There are numerous demerits of bad dieting that may be interpreted from a medical perspective. Aphramor & Bacon assert that increase in weight may cause obesity; a medical condition that is associated with numerous chronic illnesses (98). In addition, people with a large body mass may suffer from bodily inactivity. The effects minimize the effectiveness of body organs to perform basic tasks. For instance, fat people may have less functional hearts as a cause of inactive or less functional arteries. Powell is of the assumption that an overweight person has a likelihood of more than 50% to suffer from a chronic illness at one point in their life than a fit person (526). The effects are of the same significance in thin people. Spencer & Mosley point out that thin people suffer from a deficiency of body nutrients (87). The effects of nutrients deficiency may be impactful than the effects of obesity. Additionally, a healthy body should have a balanced fat distribution. The same is not emulated in thin people. On most occasions, slim people have a heavy concentrated belly fat. The health implications of concentrated belly fat are dire. Willet asserts that people with a lot of belly fat have are at a high risk of death than people with obesity (97). The metabolic fitness of thinner people may be less effective than that of overweight people. This is based on that; thin people lack internal muscles that are responsible for metabolic fitness. This increases their prevalence to health complications. The lack of considering time of meal consumption also has significant effects on a person. Jaminet & Jaminet are of the assumption that a person should consume meals at a time when the body is active (77). At this time, the metabolism rate is also high and appropriate. When a person eats in the late hours of the night, the body activity level is less thus slow metabolic rate. Consequently, food is not effectively digested, and there is a high rate of fat deposition. During the day, the body metabolism is high thus effective digestion and absorption of required nutrients. From a general perspective, dieting improves the metabolic fitness of a person. The metabolic fitness of a person determines their health status. Both overweight and thin people suffer from unfit metabolism. With proper dieting one can develop a feeding mode that suits their metabolic rate based on their body mass. In addition, effective dieting enables creation and development of muscles that may be important in ensuring metabolic fitness. Conclusion From the information provided, one may be of the assumption that dieting is an important factor in human health. In addition, the importance of good dieting is not determined by the size of a person. From the data presented, slim people are exposed to equal or severe effects of poor dieting as fat people. In addition, time of meal consumption is also an important factor in developing a good diet. From this analysis, one may present the conclusion that following a healthy diet is important for both fat and slim people. It depends on the kind of food, and the best time for meals. Summary The importance of dieting in both slim and fat people is in equal significance. From the literature reviewed, one may point out that the effects of poor dieting in slim people may have dire consequences to the effects in fat people. In some instances, thin people may suffer from much severe effects of poor dieting than fat people. This conclusion derives the importance of the assumption that the body mass of a person does not depict the importance of dieting on their bodies. In addition, dieting provides an effective way of improving the metabolic fitness of a person regardless of their weight. Time is also an important factor in dieting. The time for meal consumption also determines the metabolic rate of a person. This is based on that food digestion and absorption is highly dependent on the metabolic effectiveness of the body. At night, the body metabolism rate is low. Consequently, the body is less active. For this reason, meals consumed at this time are mostly deposited without effective digestion. This increases the body mass of a person or fat deposition. On the other hand, during the day the human body is exposed to an appropriate temperature for effective metabolism. For this reason, food consumed during the day is completely digested and required nutrients absorbed. From the arguments presented, it is an accurate conclusion that good dieting is an important factor in developing a healthy body. In addition, the size of a person does not depict their need for good dieting. Consequently, the effects of poor dieting in slim people may have the same effects or worse effects as the effects on obese persons.
