Despite this, nurses venturing into these areas ought to undertake the responsibility assigned to them seriously if there is any hope for reforms to take place in the policies (Abood, 2007). Identification of a Stakeholders’ Group that Best Represents My Interests as a Nurse The National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) is a stakeholder group that appeals to the interests of my colleagues and me (NANNP, 2005). NANN plays a pivotal role in ensuring the opinions of neonatal practitioners get the consideration they deserve when forwarded to the congress representatives.

Presenting ideas from field practitioners as an organization increases the chances of the pleas being heard and handled (NANNP, 2005). Members of NANN are able to engage in discussion pertaining to their welfare and that of their patients in their own private, social network forum provided by the board. NANN’s published curriculums on crucial position statements keeps members informed about the current state of affairs in the health care sector (NANNP, 2005). . However, throughout the years I have served as a professional neonatal nurse, the lack of a sufficient policy on the provision of natal care to women with no health insurance weighs heavily on me (Fatchett, 2012).

Taking care of expectant women before and after delivery of an infant is crucial for both the fetus and its mother. The services provided ensure proper monitoring of the health of both patients; therefore, early detection of complications occurs allowing for effective treatment (Fatchett, 2012). Failure of health policies to address the needs of the expectant mother with no health insurance policies and limited funds results into high infant mortality rates. In addition, the health of the expectant mothers remains at risk because of this policy (Fatchett, 2012).

Despite the scarcity of the resources, the government ought to find a way to make pre-natal and postnatal healthcare services accessible to those without the financial means to pay for them (Fatchett, 2012). Proposal of an Opportunity and Reason for Involvement Participating in the advocacy process allows me to keep abreast with the progress in the advocated health care change policies; for example, proposing a change in the bureaucracy found in the process of submitting concerns on health care reforms (Edelstein, 2010).

Shortening the bureaucratic chain of command would speed up the process of effecting the changes suggested. Therefore, gathering my colleagues and encouraging them to participate in the advocacy processes strengthens our pleas. Abood (2007) declared that there exists a power in numbers; nurses united in the presentation of a plea stand a chance of getting their plea heard because of their large numbers. I, therefore, feel obligated to offer my time, energy and
