Introduction on Health Policy Introduction Data from the United Nations indicate that almost 20% of the total immigrants reside in the United States. For the last five decades, the number of immigrants keeps on increasing with 2010 recording over 40 million people. This brings various dimensions in the issue of health care whereby Native Americans receive health insurance on a higher proportion than their non-native counterparts. As a result, immigrants are more likely to cater for their own medical care from their earnings.

Several acts stipulate that immigrants do not receive health cover for the first five years of residency. The only way immigrants can receive government funded health care is through Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA). Additionally, some states such as California, Illinois, New Mexico, and Virginia among others offer health cover to immigrants. The United States government spends between $65 and $130 billion trying to address the challenges brought about by uninsured immigrants.

Problem Stream The issue that concerns non recorded immigration has resulted into a wide economic, cultural and political implications but our major concern at this point is their health care needs. The US law makers have been debating on whether inclusion of the citizenship verification should carried out to ensure that illegal immigrants are denied the access of the health care cover. A range of attempts to incorporate these measures have resulted into the US population and the authorized immigrants being rejected from getting health care.

At the same time there are few occasions where the unlawful immigrants have been attempting to misuse the scheme. There are movements that oppose the issue of immigrants receiving health care cover. However, the immigration centre has provided the public with realistic information on the reasons why the legal immigrants’ inclusion in reforms would be of benefit to the whole American society. It is through the inclusion of Immigrants in the health care restructuring that the lowering of costs in the health care sector will be possible (Jans, 2007).

According to the report by the Immigrations policy center, it stated that the immigrants should not be blamed for the crisis in the health care unit but it should be noted that the immigrants are actually part of the solution on the crisis at hand. According to the policy maker’s debates, on the reforms in progress pertaining to the health care packages, which are taking a new course in the congress. People should therefore, have a deeper understanding regarding the role being played by the immigrant’s involvement in the health care structure.

It is both common sense and preferred policy to treat access of health care cover to all as a great investment in the country’s’ public health (Centre for disease control, 2012). The policies that calls for denial to health care services to immigrants results into ineffective and costly use of some other public services including the Emergence room care which brings about a negative impact ion the country’s’ public health. Georgia has also embarked on arrangements incorporate the new policies that have already been adopted by New Jersey.

This policy regards to the provision of healthcare cover to the legal immigrant adults which includes pregnant women and young children. This policy is therefore, based on three issues, that includes cost savings, matters of fiscal relief and fairness to the immigrants. On the matters of being fair, it is based on the fact that Legal immigrants all over America normally work hard and are involved in tax payment and exercising their civil obligations. But on the other hand, Congress, refute safety services to the legal immigrants who have stayed in the country for not more than 5 years (Griswold, 2007).

If at all Georgia proceeds to take advantage of the health care policy, to provide health care services to the immigrants, a total of about the 387,000 recent immigrants will be qualified to the health care benefits. This bill is also taken as a long term cost saving initiative in the health care sector. Taking the idea to cover the adults immigrants, will result into a reduction on unnecessary need of hospitalization of about 22% (McLendon, & Cohen, 2009). For instance, immigrant pregnant women who do not attend a pre-natal care have a high possibility to develop delivery complications which adds up to high costs.

Additionally, those women who survive without the access of prenatal care have a high possibility to give birth to low weight babies. Therefore, all the above health results turn to be costly at the end, to the whole community and to the specific individual. The new policy therefore, will be an added advantage as far as Georgia’s immigrant’s health care insurance is concerned. References Barbados, B.(2007). Policy Analysis and Decision Making.
