On the biochemical level, addiction leads to changes in the anatomical and physiological functioning of the brain thus modifying them in a hazardous way and therefore can aptly be labeled as a disease. 2. Describe your position regarding whether abstinence or controlled social drinking should be the treatment goal for alcoholism (France uses social treatment). Wanjek (2007) describes in his essay various studies conducted by both the government and non-government organizations regarding the affectivity of total abstinence and controlled social drinking.

Moreover, keeping in mind the various other studies conducted, it would be plausible to include controlled social drinking as a n effective method of treating alcoholism. Robins, 2002).

On a broader aspect, the failed policy has led to a great rise in the number of people imprisoned over the years due to the use of illicit drugs. A major percentage of these prisoners consist of children. Overall the current situation presents a grim picture and needs intervention. 5. When guests are in your home, why is the medicine cabinet the most likely place to be snooped? A medicine cabinet contains all the drugs that are being currently under use by the members of a family or were use in the past.

It contains both over the counter drugs and prescription drugs. Ranging from medicines to relieve headache all the way to narcotics and more serious drugs find their way into a medicine cabinet. It is for
