? Adult Day Care Center A. Introduction of Scenario Adult day care centers offer a community-based care to physically or mentally impaired adults in order to facilitate them with safe, social and helpful environment for increasing their physical, emotional and cognitive functioning (Arizona Department of Education, 2013) (cite). The inhabitants are usually offered with care at day time in a central location and they return to home at night. Adult day care centers can usually be associated with an alternative to the institutional long term care, supported living and complete-in -home care (VirginiaNavigator.org, 2013) (cite). Adult day care centers also provide safe environment along with personal care, nutrition and hydration during the day (VirginiaNavigator.org, 2013) (cite). They also provide relief while the primary caregiver is not available or is busy with certain other tasks. The adult day care centers offer both social and basic health services at their locations (Caring, Inc, 2013). (cite). There are various departments operating in Virginia engaged in offering adult care facilities in the state. The prominent departments in Virginia engaged in providing adult day care services and facilities include Accomack Department of Social Services, Albemarle County Department of Social Services, Alexandria Division of Human Services, Alleghany-Covington Department of Social Services, Amelia Department of Social Services, Amherst Department of Social Services, Appomattox Department of Social Services, Arlington County Department of Social Services, Bath County Department of Social Services, Bedford Department of Social Services, Chesapeake Department of Social Services, Virginia Beach Department of Human Services and Campbell County Department of Social Services among others. All these departments are duly involved in providing adult day care facilities and services. It is worth mentioning that their operational hours vary from center to center. At the same time, these departments are engaged in providing adult day care services such as structured as well as unstructured therapeutic activities, assistance with the actions of daily living, meals and snacks entailing special diets, exercise, health screening and monitoring, information and referrals (VirginiaNavigator.org, 2013) (cite). These departments also offer programs and services such as caregiver’s support, transportation, counseling, and support groups, nursing care, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, personal care (including showers, bath, shaving and grooming), case management and memory impairment care (VirginiaNavigator.org, 2013). The organizational chart for adult day care department in Virginia can be illustrated below: Source: (Chesterfield County, 2010) B. Description of the Problems Being Addressed Lucy Corr Village, an adult day care center, is attempting to integrate varied services for people needing such services. It may face certain problems during its integration process. These problems may be associated with licensing, certification, verification and attaining requisite finance. In order to tackle the issues related with licensing, it is advisable to Lucy Corr Village that it should fulfill the necessary requirements stated by Virginia Department of Social Services (Commonwealth of Virginia, 2013). Lucy Corr Village can contact local Virginia Division of Licensing office to seek pre-licensing training. This training shall incorporate local and state requirements for Lucy Corr Village as well as the standards related with health and safety that must be met by it. Concerning the issue of certification, it is essential that the staff of Lucy Corr Village obtain certification on first aid or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The Virginia Department of Social Services generally approves first aid and CPR certification concerning adult day care centers from National Safety Council, American Red Cross and American Heart Association (Virginia Department of Social Services, 2013) (cite). At the same time, requesting for application materials from the licensing office is often time consuming. Thus, it is advisable to Lucy Corr Village that it should aim to complete all these tasks as soon as possible. Accordingly, the Virginia Division of Licensing requires that all tasks related with licensing are completed prior to 60 days of actual opening of the facility (Commonwealth of Virginia, 2013) (cite). Similarly, another important issue can be related with verification in terms of criminal background. Hence, it is essential for Lucy Corr Village (i.e. the provider of adult day care service) to submit the required documentation as a component of licensure process to Virginia Department of State Police. It is equally important to submit floor plans to the licensing division. The licensing division shall review plans in order to ensure the appropriateness of the center. A preliminary approval will be issued by the licensing division that shall facilitate in proceeding ahead with building and renovation. Once the building or renovating process is completed, a local building inspector shall verify the infrastructure in accordance with the building codes. At the same time, it is also essential to undertake fire and sanitation inspection of the center. It will require Lucy Corr Village to contact with local fire authority for fire safety inspection and local health department for sanitation inspection. The report concerning these inspections should be submitted to local licensing office. Additionally, Virginia Department of Social Services will inspect the center and the facility in accordance with all the requirements and regulations. After the successful completion of all these procedures, this Virginia based adult day care centers integration activities license shall be granted (Commonwealth of Virginia, 2013). In addition to licensing requirements, the adult day center will require to review population and service funds. There is a need to conduct interviews within the community in order to ascertain the basic idea about the trends prevailing. Location of its operations significantly influences the operation of the center. Thus, it is also essential that safe location is selected for operating the adult day care center for Lucy Corr Village. Proper understanding of the market and the community is essential to effectively integrate the service based programs. It is therefore essential for the center to identify the target population for offering it services and programs as well as gaining substantial knowledge about the potential threats and risks. It should also ensure that superior quality of services is offered to those individuals seeking care. Additionally, it is important to determine the time for offering services and care to the individuals requiring the services (Hartle & Jensen, 2011). Furthermore, in order to tackle the problems associated with the finance requirements, it is worth mentioning that adult day care center is usually not covered by insurance of Medicare. However, Lucy Corr Village can seek financial assistance through the federal or state programs (Administration on Aging, 2012). C. Expected Outcomes The adherence to above stated suggestions shall offer the Lucy Corr Village to function in the most integrated manner in comparison to other adult day care centers. The center will be able to effectively meet the needs of the individuals who are cognitively or physically impaired as well as those individuals who are unable to perform their daily tasks independently. The certified staff will be able to render the best services to these individuals in order to promote their healthy and safe living. The above stated suggestions shall further enable the center to integrate its services effectively with the facilities and programs initiated by various departments operating in Virginia. It will facilitate the center to undertake several adult day services and programs more effectively such as group and individual activities, arts and crafts, exercise and walking programs, music and community outings, staff CPR-certified, trained in medication management, morning and afternoon snacks, lunch, health monitoring services including measurement of blood pressure, temperature, and weight, community outreach, nutrition services, respite and support for families, transportation coordination and basic health monitoring facilities (VirginiaNavigator.org, 2013). D. Conclusion In order to integrate the services for those people needing them, Lucy Corr Village must fulfill certain requirements such as licensing, certification and verification. In addition to this, it is essential for the adult day care centers like Lucy Corr Village to determine the needs and the demands for the services. The center can contact with local Virginia Division of Licensing office in order to meet its licensing, certification and verification requirements. Additionally, the center will be required to conduct community reviews and interviews for determining the community trends. In order to meet its financial requirements, it can obtain assistance from state programs. These suggestions shall enable the adult day care center to best integrate its services and offer quality outcomes to the inhabitants. References Administration on Aging. (2012). Adult day care.
