Landscapes can be categorized into different segments such as formal, naturalistic and informal (University of Alaska Fairbanks, “Sustainable Landscape Design”). In order to derive a practical comprehension of landscape design related to real life work of arts, two of the most prominent architectures including Villa Lante and Vizcaya’s Museum Gardens have been taken into concern. Villa Lante, situated in central Italy, is a Mannerist garden. The land belonging to Bagnaia where Villa Lante is situated had been found to be in the gift of the Pope, frequently given to the Bishop in 13th century.

The park of Villa Lante had been designed by a famous architecture called Vignola. The Villa Lante has been formed with the aid of two casini (i.e. houses). These houses which are quite similar had been built by separate owners. The garden’s unique characteristic is that it rises in a pattern of steps. Thus, the spectators can enjoy a series of different views as they take a pause in each level. The name of the garden is conferred after the Lante della Rovere family, who owned the landscape until the year 1933 (Chelariu).

Vizcaya is presently called the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. It is the former estate of James Deering, renowned businessman. It was developed as subtropical winter house of James Deering in the year 1910. It is presently a national landmark and ascribed museum (Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, “About Us.”) THESIS STATEMENT The objective of this paper is to make a comparison between the two landscape designs, namely Villa Lante and Vizcaya’s Gardens. Through this paper, a discussion will be made about the precise objectives and the purview of such design processes.

COMPARISON OF LANDSCAPE DESIGN: VILLA LANTE AND VIZCAYA’S GARDENS Villa Lante Villa Lante is situated in Bagnaia area of Italy. It is the one of the key sites from the point of view of landscape design in Italy. The Bagnaia area is famous for its aristocratic magnificence, the sixteenth-century Villa Lante. The term “villa” is misrepresentative. The Villa Lante garden is a very famous place in Italy. It is regarded as one of the most attractive Renaissance gardens in Italy. It is the place where people can enjoy serene landscape beauty with a touch of unique architectural design.

Villa Lante is open for the public and provides a combined feature of having a leisurely lunch and walk around the town. At the commencement of the 16th century, Cardinal Raffaele Riario started to create Villa Lante (Italy Heaven, “Villa Lante”). Consequently, a garden was added in Villa Lante which is now identified as a public park. These changes today are more obvious in the vicinity of Piazza inspired by Pizza del Popolo in Rome. In the present times, the garden is situated in the area of Bagnaia in Northern Lazio.

The key components of this garden are developed with the use of wood. The mood of the garden changes as it rises in a step-wise fashion. Through the help of lively fountains and water features water runs down, which creates a unique naturalistic landscape. The tress and shades in the periphery of Villa Lante offer shade to the visitors in turn creating an informal landscape design. The
