The conflict between Israel and the Palestinians seems to last for long especially after the failure of several peace interventions and this has attracted further research on how to terminate conflict and reconcile the two regions and specifically, what the other Arab States can contribute resolving the issue.

  1. What causes the rift between Israel and the Palestinians?
  2. Have there have been peace agreements or negotiations between the two states?
  3. What are the expected roles of Arab states in enabling Palestinians and Israelis to reach some peace agreement?

A qualitative research methodology is conducted in assessing what the Arab States should do to bring peace between Israel and Palestine. In this case, the proposal will utilize a review of literature as its main collection of information. The main sources of literature will be from academic libraries up-to-dated sources like newspapers and articles that are believed to have current and helpful research content. The choice for literature review as a method for data collection is necessitated by the availability of much literature about the Israel and Palestine crisis topic.
Tension has persisted between Israel and Palestine ever since May 1967 when Israel occupied West Bank of Jordan and the Gaza Strip. Even though the UN passed a resolution, which called on Israel to stop violations of human rights of Palestinians in the occupied territory and to offer them protection the fourth Geneva Convention, Israel continued to commit atrocities on the Palestinians residing there. The action of Israel was cayenned in the United Nations and it adopted several resolutions urging Israel to stop ruthless oppression (Quandt 43). The UN even called for concerted international action to thwart Israeli designs. However, most of these resolutions could not be adopted due to US veto. On the other hand, Israel has repeatedly asserted that it would never give up the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip. It has firmly ruled out freedom for the Palestinians living under Israel’s military rule and asserted that autonomy is the only solution.
In September 1987, the Palestinians staged a number of demonstrations in West Bank and Gaza Strip to commemorate the 1982 massacres of Palestinians in the Sahara and Chatiali refugee camps in Lebanon, which resulted in violent clashes with police, which resulted in several deaths. Further, protests and demonstrations were organized by the Palestinians in October and December 1987, which were strongly dealt by Israeli army who even used live ammunition to deal with demonstrators.
