Rather than merely integrating with an understanding of how the main character’s views shifted during the course of the novel, this particular essay will be specifically concentric upon discussing the ways in which the main character engaged with an understanding of the CPP (the Communist Party of China).

In his early years as a child, the main character consistently found himself constrained by the moral determines and conservative values of Tibet. As a member of a troop of dancers, he regularly found himself on the receiving end of discipline with respect to even the slightest infraction of these moral dictates and conservative norms of behavior. Realizing that this was both unfair and ultimately wrong, the main character sought a means of escape and began to consider alternate approaches to the way in which society was structured.
