Fictional Story on the Song Dynasty “My son you need to be careful during this period because all signs depict the possibility of a war and danger is imminent.” Those were my mother’s words as we sat down outside our mud-walled house with a roof thatched with palm leaves. I had little doubt about the mother’s opinion since I had rated it partially factual. It was a “conquering” period amongst many dynasties, and some had proved their might in ability to conquer others and benefit from their resources. “Cao Cao has been a strong warrior and a commander with al larger army that has succeeded in many wars against other empires,” I told my mother. “Don’t be loud while saying that,” she replied in a whisper. I could understand the seriousness depicted through the sound wrinkles in her face shown by the bright moonlight. The mother had just a single caution if not a problem, she felt I should be protected from any possible persecution as the emperor spies had their ears laid on the ground so as to gather any spark of information. On the previous day, I heard my father narrating the declarations of King Liu Bei concerning the forthcoming war against Cao Cao to my mother at dusk. The king together with his friend from a neighboring kingdom, Sun Quan had vowed to fight and defend their kingdoms in earnest against any possible conquer by Cao Cao. The father concluded his story outlining that it was actually a time of war, and they (men) should be ready with their weapons and it was never a time for women. The women had their functions stated clearly as being responsible for motivating their men besides offering food and any probable support. I have a clear memory still of the last words I shared with my father before going to war. It appeared the war could be serious since it involved three kingdoms, but one army appeared to be well endowed with soldiers. “In case the war erupts, I think the battle field would be by the Yangtze River,” I told my father. “No, the destination of the war is not clear yet my son,” he replied. Soon, I could see him in his war gear characterized by a sword on the waist together with a stone and bronze armor. At this juncture, I expected to hear of survival after the war or the worst as had been experienced by unfortunate sons of women in the previous wars. I thought it was not yet the time for me to lose my father conversely, the feeling of my father losing his father in the previous wars overcame my conscience. I could believe slightly that it was the fate of my grandfather’s lineage that they were destined for war and death was the result. “Will I die in the next wars if they happen in my appropriate fighting age? Indeed it is not yet the time for war”, I concluded. I feel china has experienced a massive development during this dynasty. In fact, it is through this period that the region has seen more inventions especially the discovery of gun powder. This will enhance our security and defense from external attacks. Intellectually, book printing has come to be, and we can keep our records in printed forms. Our countrymen have also adopted painting skills to appreciate nature and our culture as well. We have also improved our navigation systems of the world by discovering the compass, and we can travel efficiently throughout the world and find a way back to the initial destination. In addition, our culture that had been rendered fading by the critics previously has been stored. In the social structure, men, women and children have attained their rightful positions. As a young man with a prosperity mind, I felt that this was a period to recover from the effects of the destructions and deaths witnessed during the end of the Tang dynasty. This was the time of the painters to realize their ultimate capabilities and the leaders to work for political stability of the dynasty. Nonetheless, it was in this period that all reputable personalities together with the perceived “role models” believed in the rule of fist and blood had to be shed so as to attain consensus. In my reasoning, I thought remaining home till the end of the war could be wise but it became unbearable as I hallucinated and most of the time seeing men in the battle field calling my name and asking for physical support. The horse in the shed, the spear in the corner of the dark kitchen and the dagger dangling on the belt on my waist were enough to qualify me as a soldier. I felt bows and arrows were superior and desired picking one maybe from the battle field and probably from a slain soldier. Meanwhile, things were directly converse in the battle field. There was a huge masculine man standing on the farthest flank with a commanding voice, to a greater extent, he appeared fearless and merciless as well. He kept on commanding his side to unleash their wrath on the opponents earnestly. Everyone in the battle field appeared to be courageous in daring the Cao Cao’s army that had been dreaded in the past. Fists were clenched; bows were stretched, sled hammers were wielded and swords could be seen glittering the air and when they were brought down, dozens of lives were lost. As the time constantly elapsed, Cao Cao continued to lose soldiers some of which he cherished. Liu Bei and Sun Quan army continued to press toward Cao Cao to the alternate periphery of the field gradually but consistently. Eventually, Cao Cao was shot on the shoulder and felt in the water. Zhang Liao shot Huang Gai and moved to save Cao Cao by moving him to the shore before putting him on a horse to escape to the woods (Chen & Liang 406). Hang Dang directed his horse through the smoke before Huang Gai alarmed for rescue. He was shot on the arm, and as they tried to remove the arrow, it got broken and its metal head remained deep into Gai’s flesh before it was dug and removed. Fire balls were hurled as what appeared as new attacks were started; grief engulfed the air as men cried in pain. Eventually, Cao Cao’s army was defeated where most were killed, and the rest escaped through the thick forest (Luo & Moss 252). The signs of victory were clear, the enemy had escaped. Even though we won as an army, everyone was concerned with his loved one since that is what would merit absolute happiness. I could not hold my tears of joy when I was my father. I ran to hug him but and expected the expression of a similar joy in return. His eyes were swollen, and he was tired and with a deep cut on the back and a bleeding thumb (Lorenz 204). Nonetheless, the cut posed no serious threat to his life; he was alive, and that was an important aspect.
