The United States foreign policy has been hailed as one of the most progressive in the international system. However, some critics intimate that the US has faltered on many occasions due to its ineffective foreign policies. Walter Russell Mead is one of the proponents of the  United States' foreign policy. In his submissions, Mead presents four foreign policy tools that have enhanced the status of the US in the international system. Jacksonian, Hamiltonian, Jeffersonian, and Wilsonian are the four foreign policy schools established by Mead (Mead 2013). It is imperative to note that the Hamiltonian and Wilsonian foreign policy schools have had a significant impact in shaping America's relations with other nations since 1898.

            Hamiltonian is associated with Alexander Hamilton and its main objective was to focus on industries and commerce (Mead 2013). Ideally, the policy was aimed at opening the US to various economic opportunities abroad. Read More
