The alternative medical systems goal is to treat, diagnose and prevent mental or physical illness and often incorporate medication and non-medication therapies. It regards the human being to be a rare psychological, physical and spiritual entity. From this holistic approach, it is the pathological or physiological interaction among these aspects that defines health or illness. The origin of health or illness also relies on the interrelation between nature, the human being and the cosmos. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is guided by the principle that in order to prevent diseases the best approach would be health preservation.

This healing system concurs with my beliefs regarding health or illness. It is essential for us to reinforce the health of our bodies before illness attacks rather than curing it after it has struck. Also, it is vital for us to live better lifestyles and have good nutrition choices before the insurgence of a disease rather opting to get prescriptions after problems have arisen. Alternative medical systems are holistic in that they tie physical symptoms around various aspects of the human being inclusive of his or her social and natural environment.

They are basically person-centered. There is increased awareness globally on the necessity to maintain a healthy lifestyle. People are turning to strategies of prevention of diseases. Alternative medical systems offers best practices to future patients who wish to lead healthy life styles and prevent illness. Its effectiveness is gaining popularity among patients and its future embrace would be widened greatly. Roberti di Sarsina, P., Alivia, M., & Guadagni, P. (2012).
